I Became the Hero Who Banished the Protagonist chapter 66

66. People waiting for help (2)

66. People waiting for help (2)

I am not a party I do not have the authority to come forward and discuss the choices of the day. I just stared at the guilt-stricken Isis. I wouldn’t know if she asked me directly. That’s why I couldn’t comfort Isis, reprimand her, or support her. This whole thing became the ordeal of Isis. It was her choice whether to go ahead or stay.

“You must not kill the child.”

And, Isis finally moved forward. In order for her not to escape from her guilt and carry him away, to achieve salvation that the party of warriors couldn’t achieve at the time, at least now.

Isis had an argument with Arjen. He did not back down and confronted Bishop Andrew. As if there is something that must be protected, Isis stood up to protect the child’s life. That alone was reason enough for me to side with her. Right now, my thoughts were the same as those of Isis.

“I agree with Isis.”

I raised my hand and walked out. I could feel the gaze of my colleagues. Georg looked at me as if he would leave it to me, and Daphne and Marianne looked worried.

“… you.”

And, I met eyes with Arjen. Arjen narrowed his brow slightly, and I looked at him without changing my expression.

“There is a possibility of obtaining it even if it is infinitely close to 0, so why ignore it?”

“… Warrior.”

Bishop Andrew looked at me as if he was troubled.

“It is a choice that increases the suffering of the child, and it is a choice that may increase the number of victims. To save a child in this situation is to abandon responsibility for the rest.”

Arjen said so calmly. I looked into Arjen’s black eyes. I thought that one day the day would come when I denied you in front of my eyes. Things got really awkward. I inhaled. One day, like Illroy in this novel, I will deny Arjen.

“Do you think giving up a child’s life is full of responsibility, Arjen? It’s just an easy choice. If you kill one, you don’t have to think about the death of the rest. Because it means keeping it. Don’t think one death is cheap, Arjen. Life is not measured by numbers.”

Arjen hardened his face.

“… That one death can surely save the remaining people, but is there another option? And remember, we don’t just have to do one thing with the trace implanted child. Isn’t the purpose of this job to catch the apocalypse worshipers? Time and people cannot be wasted.”

Arjen took a step forward.

“You didn’t even see the child’s condition. The state in which unidentified flesh covered half of the body, and tentacle-like blood vessels sprouted. Do you think you can say something full of hope after seeing that?”

“So, is Isis saying this without seeing the condition? I didn’t know.”

“Are you going to play with me even in this situation?”

I shook my head.

“no. I’m saying you should give it a chance. You’re trying to take two chances away. They are trying to deprive that child of a chance to survive, and to deprive Isis of a chance to save that child.”

“Are you not even thinking about the possibility that Isis will fail?”

“Giving up the best is not the same as assuming the worst.”

This time I took a step forward.

“I don’t intend to compromise with disaster by stepping back like that, yielding step by step.”

“Think rationally. Don’t just spread idealism.”

Arjen answered in a cold voice. Bishop Andrew, who couldn’t stand the argument, waved his hand and walked in between me and Arjen.

“for a moment. Let’s stop here. We haven’t even started fighting the Doomsday cultists yet, so we shouldn’t fight among ourselves first.”

Bishop Andrew looked at Arjen, and Arjen shook his head and stepped back.

“The warrior’s words are principled and correct. But please know that we are dealing with apocalypse cultists. We shouldn’t give them a chance like this.”

The bishop also objected to my words.

“Isis may be in some danger overnight. Regardless of whether it can really be cured, how long it will take for your child to heal. If the sermon is over before the healing is over, you will be besieged by end-time worshipers after the sermon is over. Then what should we do?”

The bishop hardened his lips and continued.

“In order to cure that one child, shall we kill all the devotees who run at us? Otherwise, should we just let them take Isis?”

The bishop shook his head. The words of the Heretic Questioner, who had chased the worshipers of evil spirits dozens of times, were ruthless.

“No, warrior. I am sorry to say this, but I will not tolerate it.”

There is no room for objection. Ideals are bound to collapse when faced with the wall of reality. I searched for the words of the defense, but I could not completely refute the words of the bishop. What’s left is that I’ll have no choice but to force myself to hold on to the standard of being a hero.

“[Are you prepared to force yourself?]”

You should pamper yourself if you need to. If I say I won’t save the child, who will?

It was when I looked at the bishop and took a deep breath.

“Then I’ll let you down from the position of saintess.”

Isis, who had been watching the conversation between me, Arjen, and the bishop, dropped a bomb.

“… Isis, what is that now?”

Isis got up from her seat and stepped forward.

“Even if the Holy Land does not acknowledge it, I will say it myself. What kind of a saint is she if she can’t save a single person? Not being able to save a child in danger is the face of the Holy Kingdom, and how can you have the status of a saint?”

Isis twisted her face painfully.

“I couldn’t find this place. It’s no one’s fault, of course, but I could have made a different choice then. And I just wandered without knowing how deeply this place was hurt. Because I didn’t know anything. What does it mean to save people?”

Isis forced herself. I just stared at Isis with my eyes wide open in surprise.

“[You weren’t the only one who was prepared to push yourself.]”

Seonggeom said in a voice full of laughter. Isis stood with her back to the light coming through the broken door.

“Because I won’t do that anymore. I don’t want to turn away by saying that I did it because I didn’t know.”

give me one chance

Bishop Andrew and Arjen looked at Isis. Bishop Andre was about to say something, but immediately closed his mouth with a frown, and Arjen looked at Isis with a light expressionless expression.

“It’s forced, Isis.”

“It’s good even if it’s forced. Sometimes, forcibleness saves people.”

Silence prevailed. Bishop Andrew’s distorted face was returning to normal. The bishop’s gray eyes were staring through Isis’ blue eyes. Isis didn’t avert the bishop’s eyes, but let go of his defenses and accepted the bishop’s gaze, as if he were willing to see through himself.

“her. I never thought I would see those eyes in you.”

The bishop sighed, scratched his head, and took a cigarette from his bosom. As if he would not care about the eyes of the people around him, the bishop lighted a cigarette after lighting a holy fire on top of his hand.

“Isis, do you know that you have had a knack for making people in trouble ever since you were little?”

Sup. after. Isis did not answer. The bishop raised one corner of his mouth and smiled bitterly.

“I wasn’t doing this because I was worried that this plan would fail, Isis. I was worried about your safety. but… .”

The Bishop sighed. The shape of the sigh grew white and puffy.

“I know that’s what keeps you locked up in the end.”

The bishop looked at Isis with sharp eyes. Cigarette ash fell from the tip of the burning bishop’s cigarette. The bishop put the cigarette in his mouth again.

“This is not as the Heretic Questioner. As a member of the Puritan Church who believes in the existence of a saint, as a guardian who has watched over you since childhood, and as a person in charge of education, I will try to trust you.”

Bishop Andrew then shook his head. He’s not a father who treats his daughter like a child. I looked at the bishop with a frown, and the bishop looked back at me and raised his eyebrows as if he had already given up. you won The bishop’s gaze seemed to say so. The bishop then turned his head back to Isis.

“But Isis, remember. It has nothing to do with your will.”

The bishop’s voice grew cold.

“If things go wrong, they will come towards you. If doing so does any minor harm to your body. Even if it’s a small scratch.”

The bishop opened his mouth as he put his cigarette into the ashtray.

“I swear to heaven that with my own hands I will annihilate all who claim to be end worshipers. Even if the hero stops me.”

Isis hardened her face and nodded. The bishop then looked at Arjen with an apologetic expression. Arjen was looking down at the ground with his eyes down.

“It’s been a long time since we agreed, and I’m sorry, Arjen.”

“… I don’t have a choice.”

Arjen let out a long sigh.

“If this was the same thing as defeating disasters, it wouldn’t have ended simply by believing in Isis.”

“Yes. It may sound cowardly, but it is. Human beings are inherently opportunistic and cunning.”

Arjen closed and opened his eyes and looked at me.

“I was hired to protect Isis. If this fails, I will only protect Isis and get out of here. Maybe I’ll join the bishop’s position.”

“yes.”

I answered briefly. Our position can never be one. That was the case with Illroy before possessing this body, and it seems to be the same for me after possessing. Arjen said that to me, then turned his head and closed his eyes gently.

“… Then, I will have to completely revise my existing plan. Isis, I don’t know how far the word of your visit to this village has gone, but tonight will probably be the first and last chance to treat that child.”

Bishop Andrew narrowed his brows and said.

“The risk is significant, but I won’t bother talking about it. And, we’re going to infiltrate the doomsday cultists’ preaching while you, Isis, try to heal the child. We have to keep an eye on him there and look for a chance to catch him.”

The bishop then turned his head to Arjen.

“Arjen, you should help us heretic questioners. I think you would be much better suited for this kind of job than the hero.”

Arjen narrowed his brows.

“… So, who will be protecting Isis in the meantime?”

Bishop Andre slightly turned his head to me. I caught Bishop Andrew’s gaze and frowned.

“Leave the escort to the hero and the warrior party for a while. It can’t be helped if the hero isn’t trustworthy.”

Arjen shook his head slowly.

“no. I have no intention of being childish.”

After saying that, the mercenary stood up first. I watched Arjen’s back as he walked inside the groom.

“Again, you only get one chance. Isis.”

Isis nodded heavily.

“I know.”

Isis’ eyes did not waver at the words that you only get one chance. With Isis’ decision, now my role has been decided.

to keep that resolution.

I stared blankly at Isis and the bishop before standing up. The night was approaching.

I’m fine with her not returning to the party honestly, even now I haven’t come around to her. What she’s done isn’t irredeemable but she’s just too incompetent in my eyes to claim to be any sort of saint.

Would be happy if she just went around giving relief like before.

so the original protag will slowly turn into final boss eh

  3. Extra says:

    Idealists – Illroy & Isis
    Realists – Andrew & Arjen

I really hope that Isis rejoins the Hero party
