The Old Man Is So Good at Acting Like a Loser chapter 139

The Old Man Is So Good at Acting Like a Loser 139

< 22. Developer Meeting (3) >

“And, the admin… thought that an interesting story was necessary to make a fun game. And interesting stories come from interesting worldviews, characters, and events. Andrea was the perfect target for that.”

“Why?”

“Muh, of course it’s because of my knowledge of the game. The gap between outstanding knowledge and weak characters, hardships that are difficult to handle, the main character who uses what he has to overcome wisely, rapid growth and meeting with colleagues… If it weren’t for Andrea, this dramatic journey would have been Boo, wouldn’t that be impossible?”

“…Those who have cleared about 270 challenges must have done quite well, if not as well as me.”

At the sarcastic remark, David shook his head. There was another reason why it had to be ‘Junghyun’ and not them.

“Nope. The reason why it had to be Andrea who had completed almost all of the challenges was because that was a condition for seeing the true ending of Early Access.”

“The true ending?”

Andrea narrowed her brows. It was only then that he realized why he hadn’t been able to see the ending, and at the same time he thought that this damn game has an ending.

David swallowed and continued.

“Yes, not the official version… the true ending of Early Access. Joe, the administrator’s plan was for those who fulfilled the conditions to see the true ending… and move on to the official version once they assume a certain role.”

“Then what is the true ending? Well, isn’t it like making a wish and getting out of the dungeon or something?”

“Yes, yes… Of course, that’s not impossible, but it’s secondary… Eh, the true ending of this game is… the death of the ‘manager’, who is behind everything that happens in the dungeon.”

“…what kind of small grain is that? He said he had his own death as the ending?”

“Ji, it’s not really that AI ‘administrators’ will be deleted. To be precise, it is to have the administrator’s avatar, who is in charge of the role of ‘Dungeon Darkness’, die.”

Andrea tilted her head. I wondered what this meant, but after thinking about it for a moment, I soon understood.

“Ah, is that so after all? Are you going to pretend to die in the story, but in reality continue to work behind the scenes?”

“Yes, it is similar. And… the manager’s plan is for Andrea to take over the role of the vacant ‘dungeon undercover’…”

“Yes?”

“The death of darkness, the birth of a hero, and the fate of having to occupy an empty throne… that, that is the ‘completion of the narrative’ planned by the administrator… the final version of ‘Dungeons of Infinity’ This is the backstory of boss ‘Andrea’.”

Andrea thought she didn’t know what to look like. Andrea frowned, then tilted her head, then clutched her head as if it was a headache.

“I don’t quite understand, so when this game officially opens after early access, is it a rumor that I will be the final boss?”

“Yes, yes, that’s right. At that time, Mr. Andrea will have to deal with the challengers. Until then, you will have to manage the dungeon.”

“…”

“Maybe that’s why I chose Andrea more. No one knows more about dungeons than Andrea-san…”

Andrea let out a long sigh and ate the chocolate that was on the table. I don’t know how they came up with it, but it tasted almost like real chocolate. When I ate something sweet, I felt like my head, which had been a mess, was a little tidied up.

“When the full version is released… the admins will try to clone other players as well as clone us, right?”

David nodded with a melancholy expression.

“Yeah, yes. Because that’s the most fun game the administrator thinks… we’re trying to stop it… can’t we make more victims like us?”

“…you have to stop that, la.”

Andrea closes her eyes for a moment. It didn’t really matter what the manager’s plan was or how he would make himself.

The important thing right now is the fact that you can meet the manager and how to deal with it.

“Anyway… once you reach the 100th floor, you will be able to meet with the manager. The only challenges I haven’t been able to complete are ‘Skilled Challenger, Andrea’ and ‘End of All Journeys’. ‘End of All Journeys’ requires clearing all other challenges, and ‘Skilled Challenger, Andrea’ is 100 with Andrea. Because reaching the floor is the condition.”

‘Skilled Challenger, Andrea’ is a challenge that can be cleared by reaching the 100th floor as Andrea. In reality, it was an impregnable challenge that Jung-hyeon couldn’t break no matter how hard he tried.

“No, that’s right. Come to think of it, there are only 10 floors left.”

“Then what should I do? They said that even if you met and killed the manager, it would be nothing more than an avatar.”

David turned his head, looked directly at Andrea for the first time, and spoke in a firm voice.

“Through the avatar, the administrator’s main body must be removed.”

“···Way?”

“There is a way to incapacitate an administrator by subverting the algorithm. Originally, you have to physically press a button to activate it, but there is a way I have linked it in the game before.”

“…?”

“If you deal infinite damage to the administrator’s avatar, the algorithm will be destroyed.”

It was an absurd sound. I couldn’t even call it a method. because······.

“Isn’t the maximum damage of ‘Dungeon of Infinity’ 65536?”

In fact, even reaching 65536 damage without cheats or bugs is next to impossible. Even more infinite damage, there was no way that was possible.

But David wouldn’t have said this without thinking. Andrea stared at David.

“…Is it possible to manipulate the numerical values of abilities?”

“No, that’s impossible. If something like that happens, the manager will notice right away.”

“Then what do you plan to do?”

“Yeah, but if it’s just for a moment, it might be possible to get rid of the upper limit of maximum damage. So… you have to reach infinite damage with only the things in the dungeon.”

“…?”

“I will explain the plan.”

David calmly began to tell me his plan. It was a reckless and reckless plan, but it seemed to have been prepared with great care.

However, while listening to the story in silence, Andrea had no choice but to open her eyes at one passage.

“···for a moment. The real Andrea’s soul is inside the mimic?”

“Yes, it is. I had to take on the role of joining Mr. Andrea at Bishop Gregory’s side… but there was no one better suited to the role than he.”

Andrea was in a mixed mood. Even the fact that the Mimic was originally a human is shocking, much less that the original owner of the body it currently occupies is inside it.

So what happens to the Mimic when the Administrator is defeated?

Andrea was about to ask that question. However, as I thought about it, a more comprehensive question, including that fact, came to my mind.

It was strangely important that I only remembered this now.

“…But what will happen to this world if the Administrator disappears?”

silence.

David hesitated for a long time, unlike the way he had been talking about his plan well before. Andrea stared at David without saying anything until he got an answer.

“Is it difficult to say?”

David shakes his head and takes a sip of tea with slightly trembling hands. Then, as if he had made up his mind on something, he nodded and opened his mouth.

“And, as for what happens after the manager disappears…”

* * *

‘[Divine] Unleashed Grip of Hell (Equipment Card): The gauntlet the first apostle of the Shadow God used to tear and kill the demon of light. The blessing of the Shadow God contained within it has been released and is finally taking full effect. (Increases strength by twice the amount of magic power, greatly enhances the effect of the Shadow Divine Card, and activates special effects at the start of battle)’

“Okay, okay, that’s it.”

David returned the brilliant card to Andrea. Andrea immediately summoned the equipment and tried to install it on her hand.

There was not much difference in appearance, but I could definitely feel more power than before, and I didn’t even use the shadow imprint, but black flames soared between the iron plates.

“Thank you, Mr. David. It’s definitely stronger than before.”

“Oh, no. I’m sorry that’s all I can do…”

David thought about what he could do for the departing Andrea, and manipulated the equipment card to change it to a higher level equipment.

Andrea looked over the gauntlet and asked a question.

“By the way, isn’t this getting caught by the manager? You say you can’t adjust your abilities?”

“That would be fine. Originally, the release condition of ‘The Grip of Hell’ was to kill the demon of light… Didn’t you kill the great demon that was one level stronger than that? I went through a more difficult ordeal because of the manager, so there should be this level of compensation.”

If you think that way, well, there is nothing to say. Andrea nodded, thanked her lightly, and stepped out.

Not wanting to forget, David chased right in front of him and begged for trust.

“Don’t forget this. I’ll put it under the treasure chest you get after defeating the boss on the 100th floor. I will tell the black dealer clearly.”

“All right. Then we’ll see you later.”

After a brief greeting, I turned around without regret. I didn’t know if I would ever see him again.

First of all, getting through the 90th floor was a problem.

As it is the last gateway to the 100th floor, which is the turning point for clearing the challenge, the way the 90th floor passes is different from the other floors. It’s not about killing monsters and getting out through the exit, but taking a set test.

‘Considering the abilities of the party right now, there’s nothing to be a problem… but since humans are a variable, I’m somewhat uneasy.’

As I thought about this and that, I passed through the aisle in an instant and returned to the waiting room. Tricia sees Andrea and runs towards her.

“What, did you meet well? how was it?”

Come to think of it, I forgot, but I promised to explain to the party what I was talking about with the developer. Andrea ponders how to explain this.

“Kek, Master. Did you have a good trip?”

“Andrea, did you find out anything?”

Meanwhile, Mimic and Emilia also approached Andrea. Everyone seemed curious about what they were talking about.

‘How can I embellish it so that everyone can understand it…?’

At first, I couldn’t speak honestly.

This world is a fake world that is nothing more than an illusion, and you, me, and even the gods are just a bunch of data. However, since I was modeled after human data in the real world outside, I only knew that I had entered this fake world by mistake.

The artificial intelligence called Manager created all of this, and he wants to make me the manager of the dungeon. However, I plan to kill the manager and destroy this world with the method suggested by the developer. By the way, the mimic there is the original owner of the body I’m using now.

‘Damn it, how can I say this honestly?’

You’re lucky if you think you’re telling a weird joke, and nine out of ten you’ll be treated like a lunatic. I won’t openly say that I’m crazy because I have accumulated affection… but maybe Emilia will cast a spell to recover from abnormal conditions.

‘Let’s adapt in moderation. It’s what I do best.’

Andrea is good at lying. Hadn’t he been good at deceiving the reason he knew about dungeons or miscellaneous things before?

It wasn’t long before Andrea finished tidying up.

It’s just a matter of talking about parts of it. I don’t know if it will succeed, but I found a way to kill the administrator, and if I kill the administrator, what will happen to this world. That was enough.

Andrea clears her throat and opens her mouth.

However, the words that came out of his mouth were completely different from what he thought.

“This world… is a place made of illusions. Until now, I had been under the illusion that I was from reality.”

The party who opens their eyes round at the unknown sound. Looking at them blankly, Andrea confessed as if letting out a sigh.

“I have lied to you all this time. It’s not the first time I’ve been to a dungeon.”

Also, I think after that faulty reveal by barbarian, author decided to think twice and learn how to do this properly. If you can’t learn from other’s mistakes, you have to learn from yours.

This novel is showing us why information staging is important for “great revelation” and how throwing till it stick does not worth in this case. The most disappointed I was with “novel’s extra”, that did NOTHING to this till very end.
