Abandoned by my Childhood Friend, I Became a War Hero chapter 6

6 - Fillion Academy

6 – Fillion Academy

Sangria, a large city boasting a population of 1 million.

As the center of the long history of the empire, Sangria, which has been expanding for hundreds of years, is absolutely not the size to walk around on foot. Since one district is quite the size of a small town, even if you cross only two or three districts with two legs, the day ends quickly.

It is essential to take a wagon to move to a remote area, but few people, like nobles, own a private wagon, and the cost of renting a wagon is quite high, which is quite burdensome for those who commute to and from work. Therefore, the Imperial Administration Agency pondered this problem for a long time and eventually came up with a solution.

The result is the Sangria Islands Tram. It is a manaed train that travels across the islands along pre-laid rails.

The design itself was made hundreds of years ago by King Filion the Great, but it has not been realized due to a lack of technology. A route that circumnavigates all districts has been completed.

This kind of technology cannot be found anywhere on the continent, and the Jedi Tram is the pride of the empire in name and reality… I skipped over it while listening to an announcement about something like that.

I look out the window of the rattling and swaying tram and see the scenery of the islands passing by. It was definitely great. If something like this had been installed on the front lines, it would have been less painful during the war.

Of course, there are many problems with the system tram to operate routes outside the city. The speed was not very fast, so it was vulnerable to looting, such as hordes of bandits, and the damage to the tracks was quite frequent, making it difficult to repair unless it was a large city where periodic maintenance was possible.

And at the time of the war, the Demon Army also actively mobilized guerrilla units, so if the line had actually been established, it would have been targeted as the top priority of the Demon Army. Even so, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for myself.

A sudden laugh came out. I thought I had shaken it all off, but now that it’s all over, I feel sorry for this. Is your heart still on the battlefield?

An announcement was made that they had arrived at Area 3, Fillion Academy. Shaking off unnecessary thoughts, I got off the tram and left the station.

The first thing you see as soon as you exit the station is the large and magnificent main gate of Fillion Academy. The entrance, carved out of pure white marble, seemed to see the gateway to a fairly decent city.

Above the gate was engraved a pattern with a dragon’s head large enough for anyone to see.

As the Fillion Academy is an important facility for the empire, where the children of all the noble families of the empire and even the royal family of other countries are enrolled, the security was so thorough that it was not possible to show documents properly and enter like a system gate.

I finally got out of the gate after undergoing thorough inspections by the guards, including checking my ID, collating official documents, searching my body, and scanning my magic power.

As I came out of the gate, a woman I had never seen before in a white uniform waved at me from afar on the verdant school road with wide green grass.

Looking closely, he looked quite young to be an academy student. Was it thirteen or fourteen? A petite girl with brown hair hopped on her short legs and greeted me with a bright smile.

“Welcome to Fillion Academy! Are you Captain Ion Graham?”

I only nodded lightly. Her brown-haired girl looked up at me, widened her eyes, and stared blankly at my face for a moment.

“Wow… You were a very cool person than you thought? You must be very popular with students. Especially for female students?”

“… ….”

This kind of conversation was uncomfortable. I didn’t know what answer to return. So I decided to change the subject and just ask a question.

“Are you a guide? Are you a student here?”

“Yes? What a rude word! I am a full-fledged adult woman at 26 this year!”

What? Twenty six?

I couldn’t contain my embarrassment. With a small height that barely reached my chest height and a child-like face, the age difference between them was only eight years.

For a moment, the thought that the anti-aging magic had finally come true passed through my mind. Or a side effect of some kind of experiment.

Whether I’m embarrassed or not, the brown-haired girl cleared her throat a little, then gently lifted the hem of her uniform skirt and politely greeted me again.

“My name is Lilia Bennett, Instructor in Imperial History and Tactics. I wish you well in the future. Captain Ion Graham.”

“Um… Excuse me. I didn’t even know that.”

“No. In fact, it happens often. Sometimes students treat me like a kid? Don’t you give me candy, don’t you rub my cheeks while saying I’m cute! I’m sure I’m a lot older!”

Lilya Bennett complained about her sorrow for her students for a long time, as if she had accumulated a lot, but she came to her senses belatedly.

“Oh right! Now is not the time to show Captain Graham around the school! First of all, I will say hello to the president, and then I will take a light tour of the academy with me. It’s so wide that it’s hard to see it in one day, so I’ll just tell you about places you’ll visit often. Let’s get to know the rest slowly!”

I was guided by Lilya Bennett and followed her to board her academy tram.

Fillion Academy was as large and spacious as a fairly small town as it used the entire site in District 3.

Of course, it was too harsh for students outside of the combat department to have students walk to all places, so a small tram line dedicated to the campus was laid in the academy.

“Actually, until a few generations ago, students were really forced to walk for physical training. Then, after an alchemy major student with extremely low stamina collapsed from exhaustion, a carriage was built, and now a horse-powered tram has been installed.”

“How low is your stamina that you collapse on the way to class?”

“Actually, that student was taking 13 classes. It may be because of her lack of stamina, but she moves from building to building several times a day to take classes, so it’s enough….”

“… ….”

“Oh! What you see there is the lecture hall. All theory classes are held in that building. Most of my classes are theory-oriented, so I spend most of my time in the lecture hall.”

“What class will I be taking?”

“Instructor Graham… Was it basic physical training and combat practice? At first glance, I think it was. Maybe there are a lot of outdoor classes unlike me? You should hear the details from the president!”

Lilya Bennett was a pretty good talker. First of all, the conversation itself wasn’t boring because there were a lot of topics, and even though I didn’t take the lead, I smiled and talked constantly, but I didn’t ask questions that crossed the line, such as personal life, so the conversation was quite comfortable. She had the feeling that she might be a popular teacher with students.

As for Instructor Lyria, the title changed from Captain Graham to Instructor. I asked him to correct his title as he is not yet an instructor, but he said in a friendly manner, “I will become an instructor soon anyway, so the prospective co-workers are getting used to it in advance.”

At some point, the tram stopped at the administrative district of the academy. This is an area where the administrative buildings of Fillion Academy are gathered, and the president’s office was also located here.

“It’s not like an interview, so you can have it comfortably. I heard that Instructor Graham had already passed the document interview. I think I can come and see you as a simple greeting before going to work.”

From noble mtl dot com

“Okay. Who is the president?”

“President Heinkel? He’s a wonderful person. He has a great passion for education and learning, and he devotes himself to the academy. It is also a high-level battle mage. He is said to have been on the battlefield in his prime, so maybe that’s why he tends to get out of the way sometimes… Still, he is like a benevolent grandfather to the students.”

A kind grandfather… I’m not sure how it feels. The old people in the rural village where I lived were all very eccentric, and Marquis Karlstein was a heavenly soldier, so I never felt benevolent. I don’t know what will happen to my granddaughter.

I knocked on the door of the president’s office and waited. Soon after, an old man’s grave voice was heard from inside the door.

“Come in.”

As I entered the president’s office, I smelled ink and old books. Behind a large and spacious desk, a heavy-looking old man brushing his white beard down to his waist looked at me with a calm and thoughtful expression. He was wrinkled and gray, but a pair of piercing blue eyes looked straight at me.

He is the president of Fillion Academy. It was Heinkel von Justania.

The moment I went inside and was about to greet him politely, Heinkel opened his mouth.

“Welcome. Mr. Ion Graham. Or should I call it by this name? The black demon of the battlefield, called ‘The Scarlet Star’.”

Hearing that, my expression went cold.

I think makes sense to try to reduce the militia, but also is true that in case of any contingency You should have specialized staff to deal with it.

EH, it’s not a normal world because I’d assume this is a magic world so monsters still exists even though the war has ended

  5. Arlos says:

They already mentioned that while they would be downsizing the army, they would still keep training Elite warrior/Commander at the academy in case of a war, I fail to see how they are exclusive?

  6. When did they say demilitarize? Mc just wanted to retire so his superior suggested him to be an academy instructor. Did I miss something?

  7. Wait lmao, the empire is like “ooohh let’s demilitarize we don’t need the army anymore but let’s keep the combat and survival academy instructors!!”

Like huh?? You know you’re training them for absolute nothing? Of course there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s always beneficial to have, but it’s definitely impractical in a peaceful era.

Ah but I guess I can’t complain because in a society where the thinkers and warriors are divided, it’s battles are bound to be led by idiots and wars led by cowards.
