How to Survive at the Academy chapter 132

How to Survive at the Academy 132

Joint Combat Practice 2 (18)

– Tak!

A piece of firewood was split in half and rolled across the grass.

I picked up the split firewood and tossed it towards a nearby pile of wood. The firewood, which had been rolled several times, fell down the pile.

For a while, only the sound of chopping wood resounded through the camp. About thirty minutes later, the intermittent chirping sound spread, and there was no more firewood left.

“Whoa…”

I sat on an empty tree stump and took a deep breath.

Spring is coming to an end.

In the early morning air, I could already feel the sweltering moisture characteristic of summer. Gradually, the flying insects will rise more and more, and the sweltering heat will intensify.

I have already experienced summer once in this forest.

I needed to pitch a tent for outdoor activities, and I also wanted to establish an environment where I could constantly secure cold water. Besides that, I also wanted to renovate the hut a little bit, and I also wanted to finish the wand work I was going to give to Yenica… I had a lot more work to do than I thought.

There were a lot of ups and downs, but you still have to do things.

As you continue your camp life, there are many instances in which you will lose your mind because there are so many things to do, even if you are a little careless.

I hoisted my axe and swung my arms back and forth back to camp.

*

“You are surprisingly fine. I am glad to see that you are not in any serious condition.”

Two days have passed since the day of joint combat practice.

There was a lot of absurd commotion in just one day, so the academic staff must have been busy taking care of the aftermath for a while.

Still, there were no casualties or major property damage. There was a hole in the ceiling of the Bachelor’s Cathedral, and the stained glass had collapsed… It will probably all be restored before the end of this month.

“In the beginning, it wasn’t really badly hurt. Yenicka suffered more than me.”

“Is that so. In fact, the reason I came today is to see Miss Yenica.”

The maid chapter of the Ophelis Hall is never idle.

There is not a single thing that is disturbed in her elegant posture and neat dress, but she must have been doing a lot of work since this morning. Even so, I think that it is Bellmaia that there is no sign of tiredness.

The basket she was holding contained a few pieces of cut fruit, a clean cloth and bed linen, medicinal herbs with antipyretic properties, and a change of clothes.

“I heard rumors that he was very sick. Ed is taking good care of you, but there is something that worries me, so I came here to work a little.”

Everything like listening to Yenika’s ejaculation was left behind. Because my health is pretty bad.

However, Yenika herself preferred to stay in the hut rather than enter the bachelor’s medical room. In my mind, I wanted to tell him to rest in a good environment, but he refused, saying he wanted him to recover in a familiar environment.

As a result, Yenika is recovering from her illness in her hut. It wasn’t so serious that I couldn’t even control my body at all, so there was no major problem in the way that I help out with my daily life and check the uncomfortable parts.

It is not a disease caused by a disease in the first place. The only cure is time. There is no other way than to wait for Yenika’s magical power to recover step by step.

Perhaps it was because of the blurred vision, I had to help myself frequently as I constantly bumped into the edge of furniture or cracks in the door, but I was relieved to see that the vision was slowly coming back.

“It was a car I wanted to ask someone for help.”

“Master Ed. If something like this happens, you must find me first.”

The eyes are still expressionless, but the strangely shimmering feeling makes them happy.

Bell can’t be happy to see Yenika’s condition, and it just feels good to have the opportunity to engage in housework.

I prefer to work, but it has been a long time since I gave up on this job due to my higher position. His hands are itchy, so his attitude towards work is quite authentic.

“But, Master Ed.”

“yes?”

“Is there anything you are struggling with?”

When I looked at Bell with a puzzled face, Belle put my chin on my chin and tilted my head.

“no. If you do this for a long time, you will develop an occupational disease that makes useless guesses.”

“Useless speculation?”

“It’s just… St. and Miss Lucy these days, asking about Master Ed… um… I don’t think it would be good to talk too much about it. For now, it would be important to take care of Ms. Jenica.”

Bell bowed his head slightly and passed me as I was sitting by the fire, trimming the fish and shellfish.

And before opening the door to Yenica’s hut, he suddenly turns around and talks.

“I’m just telling you just in case, you shouldn’t come in or spy on me. You have to wipe off your sweat and change your clothes.”

“A normal story…”

“Well, there is no way that Master Ed would make such a mistake.”

After saying that, Bell opened the door and pushed himself into the cabin.

However, before the body completely enters… Before closing the body as it is, it is talking with the upper body removed.

“Coming to think of it, I wonder if there must be a reason why we shouldn’t make that kind of mistake.”

“…?”

“Isn’t it a time of storm and rage? When would you or would you ever make a mistake like that? It’s not a sin to die for being a little curious about something like this, so I think it’s okay to listen to your inner voice sometimes…”

“Don’t say anything strange and come in quickly and help Yenicana…”

“It’s unfortunate. Oh right. Master Ed.”

Bell’s expression rarely changes dramatically, but just before closing the door, there was a strangely refreshing feeling.

“You just spoke nonsense.”

I am impressed with the tone of something refreshing and refreshing. What looks refreshed is the face of a gladiator who won one round.

– bang

“…”

From inside the hut, the sound of Yenica making a fuss could be heard. The sound of Yenica’s scream asking him to fasten the lock on the door, saying what the hell are you talking about, and Bell’s ranting about how to open the door somehow because he doesn’t know how important ventilation is in the patient’s room went back and forth for a long time.

– ‘Are there any other things you are struggling with?’

I just sat still and swung my dagger.

Looking at the burning bonfire, Bell recalled such a meaningful question.

Bell is the person who manages the students living in the Ophelis Hall. Such a question was probably asked after a lot of speculation after seeing the reactions of the students in the Ophelis Hall, mainly Saint Claris or Lucy.

Bell himself says that his background is too broad, and dismisses the habit of thinking deeply and trying to get involved in everything as his own weakness. However, from the perspective of seeing the virtues, I am only grateful. In this way and that, Bell has helped me a lot.

-‘Lady Jenica! It’s just a crime to put a patient in such a dusty environment! It’s better to go into the bachelor’s medical room at this point! Even if you don’t like it, you can’t help it! First of all, I will open the door once coolly and ventilate it once! Let’s go!’

-‘Why are you doing that now, dear!’

I couldn’t help but feel complicated by the sound of a commotion inside.

*

“I-I wonder if… can I ask you a really rude question…? If you think you have crossed the line, you can sanction it with your fist. No, it seems that you have clearly crossed the line… As a man, it is very difficult for me to pass without asking this. I’m just going to put some pressure on my stomach and ask. Don’t worry about it because I’m smart.”

After the class schedule was over, it was Ziggs who came to visit.

“Did you two do well today?”

“…”

“…Suck…!!”

“…”

“…sin… sorry.”

When the cool evening wind blows, I brought Yenica to get some fresh air and sat her down.

Bell’s behavior as she opened the door wide and wiped Yenica’s body and changed her clothes was also out of her mind.

It seemed like it was sending me some kind of signal, but I didn’t make a mistake in the end because I wanted to continue a good relationship with Yenika. He’s not really a teenage boy, and he doesn’t have any reason to be against him because he wants to take a peek at a woman’s body.

Still, from the point of view of Yenica, who can’t see well, it seems that she is very anxious.

I want to ask if you’ve seen it, but it’s difficult to ask directly, so you’re hesitating and blushing. It’s clearly a strange feeling that we can’t even make eye contact.

He believes in me, but what is still insecure is his anxiety. That being said, if you ask me directly, I think you are suspicious of the other person.

I must have fallen into an overloaded state by thinking alone like that. I don’t mind if I just ask straight-forward, but it’s an overly kind Yenika-like response.

I’m ready to reply that I didn’t see it, but the other side is sinking on its own. Even if I didn’t ask, it would only make the atmosphere strange to come forward and make excuses, so this strange stalemate is only continuing.

From the perspective of a third person, it’s a situation where I have nothing to say even if I say that I really did a great job today…

“Actually, I came under the direction of the student council president. He said that he might not be able to come in person because he was very busy, so he sent me instead.”

“Are you Tanya?”

“Yes. You worry a lot. Actually, there were some rumors about the Ophelis Hall. Because people who were close to Ed-senpai are strangely worried about Ed-sunbaenim.”

“It’s funny. what do i have to worry about Thank you for your concern, but I’m really okay, so don’t worry about it.”

Ziggs tilted his head and looked at me once.

It seems to measure my expression for a moment, but if I look at my face with my ax eye open for a long time, there is no way I can find anything else strange.

In the end, Ziggs nodded and agreed.

“You must have been a little behind on camp work, is there anything I can do to help?”

“There is nothing right now. I’m grateful, but you don’t have to worry about it because you have a lot of work to do.”

“Hey, these are things I can handle with both sides. Well, since you said you’re fine, I’ll go get my job done.”

Ziggs took off his clothes and stood up.

“Oh right. Did the Lortel come and go?”

“Lortell? No, I didn’t really come to camp.”

“Hmm…”

Ziggs tilted his head at my answer.

“What would be a problem?”

“It’s not really that great. I was quite worried about Ed sunbaenim, but I was a little puzzled because he didn’t come to visit me. He was worried right away and his complexion was pale, but he didn’t come… It must be because he’s busy with work.”

“okay. He is expensive.”

“It is, but looking at the filings for the Elte company these days, it makes me wonder if there is such a thing as such.”

Come to think of it, I saw it while time was rewinding.

The scene where the carts of the Elte Chamber were filling the Maxes Bridge. They must have been wagons carrying supplies delivered to the Elte Chamber.

“Well, now that I’m also a member of the student council, I can’t help but look at Lortel’s actions for nothing. Anyway, senior said he’s fine, so I’ll report it. Please take good care of yourself.”

“Yeah, good job.”

*

After that, he spent the whole time caring for Yenika until the sun went down. It felt like time went by pretty quickly.

And, it was Clarisse who came late at night.

I showed up wearing a robe, and I was in the middle of cleaning a boar carcass by the fire.

When she puts down her robe hat, she sees an aristocratic girl with brown hair and a cutie face.

Then, when the pendant hanging from the neck is untied, the heavy tone soon disappears, and she changes into elegantly set gray hair.

Her hair shining softly in the moonlight makes her intuitively understand why she is considered the most noble girl in the Telos Church.

I quickly threw the blood-stained dagger behind the boar corpse, and tried to move the protruding intestines out of sight by swiping away with my feet. Actually, it was a bit late.

However, Clarisse did not show any signs of surprise or bewilderment even when she saw the scene. He was just sitting on the opposite side of a tree stump, as if to relax his body.

“hello.”

I washed my hands in the floating stream and sat on the other side. I handed a mug that was on the workbench to Clarisse. This is herbal tea made with herbs that Bell brought.

The sound of grasshoppers sits in the cool night air. So we sat still for a while.

Wondering when the silence would break, Clarisse spoke up first.

“The Archbishop Verdio has been officially excommunicated.”

“Is that so.”

“Emperor Eldane acknowledged his easygoing attitudes. It is said that you are seriously thinking about the change of the times and the direction of our denomination to cope with the flow. This must be correct. Rather than being swayed by the voice of one powerful Archbishop, we are all moving with one accord under the voice of the Holy Father who rules Saint Carpea.”

“Do you think that’s okay?”

Clarisse slowly closed her eyes and spoke while looking at the distant starry sky.

“You must have struggled for a long time between faith and cause. It is unfortunate that you have spent a long time as a bystander, but this event may serve as an opportunity to suggest a new direction.”

“…”

“So, I’m just going to try one more time. Holy Emperor Eldane has always been a devout believer since he lived in a monastery in the Lamelen Mountains. I think it is too early to fall into the swamp of distrust yet.”

Clarisse said that and lowered her gaze.

One unfiltered tea leaf is floating in the herbal tea at the end of the line of sight. The bright moon rises over the teacup, and the tea leaves swaying in between.

“And… Adele…”

Talking up to that point, Clarisse did not continue to speak. Again there was silence for a while.

I sat still for a while, waiting for Clarisse to speak. Still, Clarisse was speechless, just looking down at the teacup.

“He died laughing.”

I didn’t dare look at Clarisse’s face.

“One thing is certain. Saint Clarisse, you must have been the meaning of her life.”

Adele wasn’t like a bard in the first place. The reason I decided to wander the world and become a bard was because I didn’t want to lie about what I had said to Clarisse, even if it was late.

What is necessary in a life without family, proper friends, or ties is the reason for surviving in the end.

“I don’t know if you would have realized it or not, but you were the reason I had to live in a world where there was no connection.”

“…”

“So, there is no need to be too hard or feel guilty. You did your best.”

After talking like that, he shut his mouth again. Clarisse, who looked down at only the teacup for a while…

Below the sound of grasshoppers, the sound of a girl swallowing her breath is heard.

I sat in front of him… and stayed with him for a while without saying anything.

“It’s summer vacation soon.”

Clarisse was ready to go back and stood up. If you spend more time in the camp than this, the way back becomes too dark.

In fact, it was already dark already. I made a torch by soaking a cloth in oil.

Clarisse took the blazing torch and said thank you.

“Are you going to stay at camp during summer break?”

“There’s nowhere else to go, so that’s it.”

“I will come often. At that time, it would be Kylie Ekne, not Clarisse, but…”

“Do what you like. I don’t care.”

Clarisse watched the torch for a moment, then asked in a hesitant tone.

“Hey, I have a small request.”

“Are you saying please?”

“When I was Kylie and not Clarisse… I was wondering if I could treat you as a junior…”

Now, she might be a holy girl with white hair and red eyes, but when she was a student, she was a noble girl, Kylie.

“…”

“Is this a very strange request?”

“no. In fact, there are people around me, so it is natural to treat me as a junior. It was like that from the beginning.”

“Is that so too?”

What made him so proud, Clarisse smiled softly.

Now that it was really time to go back, Clarisse lowered her head and said one last time.

“Actually… I was worried about you too.”

“Are you worried about me?”

“Actually, the person who worked hard to save Adele more than anyone else is Sunbaenim. After all, that’s how it ended…”

I heard that there are a lot of people who are worried about me around the Ophelis Hall. One of them was Clarisse.

Bell and Ziggs as well. They come one by one and ask if they are okay.

Actually, my answer was the same.

“it’s okay. In fact, it’s not even that hard.”

“Then I’m glad…”

“I tried my best, but it didn’t work. If you put your mind to it and suffer, you will only have less time to work. So don’t worry too much.”

Clarisse glanced at my face, then nodded and squirmed as she walked up to me.

And then I bury my face on my shoulder. Is it really shameful to look at your face?

“Even if others don’t know, I remember clearly.”

“…”

“I know how hard Ed-sunbaenim worked hard, and he worked hard with his teeth. Even if everyone else forgets, I never forget. I will remember it until the day I die.”

With his face buried deep and not raising his head… I had a hard time reacting.

“It’s not a lot I can do, but if you need it, please do ask for help. I’m not confident I’ll give back as much help as I’ve received… but I’ll do everything I can.”

“My heart will be grateful. It’s curfew time, so you have to go back.”

Clarisse raised her head, which had been deeply buried, and smiled hard.

She laughed as hard as she could.

– Swallow

After meeting Clarisse, I sat alone on a tree stump by the bonfire.

It is a blessing to come together and take care of each other. Everyone was restless for fear that I might have been hurt.

I shook my head Hansako, nothing to worry about. I said over and over that I was fine. There’s nothing good about being worried or showing weakness.

All we need to do right now is to add some more firewood to keep this bonfire as long as possible, and then poke it around with a poker. And it was necessary to cook the meat that had been trimmed to the ground level.

While picking up firewood in moderation and throwing it in, I try to breathe the early summer night air into my mouth.

Then, a heavy feeling of weight is carried on the back.

no need to look back

You can feel the blood running down your spine.

The figure of the girl lying on the other side of the tree stump, leaning on my back, is the same bard that I have seen many times.

As she finished her life with a soft smile, she lies still, leaning on my back. I give strength to my waist at the weight that is being carried towards my body, and I pick up a few more piles of firewood and throw them away.

According to the truth, she is a girl who would have died anyway.

The reason I tried to save her was because I couldn’t leave a person who was about to die.

If you can give reasons for not being saved, you can give any number of reasons.

The last regression was Time Attack. I had to move even a little bit farther away because I was too busy to move, so I couldn’t afford to take Adele first.

Clarisse would not have known where Adele was. It was a fact that only I could know that Adele’s starting point was the hallway of the Glockt Hall. Because of the pressing time, I couldn’t even announce the fact in advance.

At first, it was impossible to expect that Adele’s strength and vitality would be the last to complete this regression. I said that it would be possible without problems at least once, so I just assumed that I would head to the Haksa Cathedral as always. Because I’ve done it dozens of times.

However, we are aware that these reasons are all just self-defense mechanisms.

Whatever the case, Adele Seris died. Even if it was a death that he met with a smile, the fact that he met the end does not change.

I didn’t have a very special relationship with Adele. It was only because of my feeble conscience that I tried to save her. That’s right, though…

Anyway, I tried to save it, but the fact that I couldn’t save it is the same.

After overcoming the weight that was pressing on his back, he threw the pile of firewood in it for a while.

“Ed.”

Suddenly, he shook his head at the sound of his name being called.

“I put too much in.”

When I looked at the fire, there was a lot of firewood piled up and it was burning.

Beyond the fire, Yenica was sitting on the edge of the campfire.

It must have been difficult to move alone with blurred vision, but it must have been possible because the camp structure was in my head to some extent.

“Ed.”

Yenica called me softly.

“it’s okay.”

“okay.”

As I pummeled the fire with poker, I looked up at the soaring flame.

“Still, it’s an experience I don’t want to do twice. never.”

“yes.”

One day… I remember looking up at the sky alongside Yenika at the half-broken nail salon.

At that time, it was early summer.

The joint combat training has also been completed, and it is now summer vacation,

There is still a lot of work to be done.

Yenika didn’t comfort her, nor did she give her words of encouragement.

Just looking up at the flickering lights side by side, he sat with them until the long night’s darkness passed.

Rare show of true emotions from Ed. This was a good chapter. The cherry on top tho would’ve been if Yennekar told Ed “You did good” (don’t remember the exact words) like he told her after they defeated her as a boss, would’ve been so poetic.

  3. ATAT says:

Didn’t think the author would actually kill off a major character… sadge, especially since Ed clearly feels guilty about not being able to save Adele.
