How to Survive at the Academy chapter 139

How to Survive at the Academy 139

End of term assessment (3)

“It’s nice to see you after a while.”

In the end, she entered Lucy’s room.

If you’re not a student and you have to stay in the Ophelis Hall for a long time, then Bell isn’t the only one in trouble.

So, I quickly left the matter and was going to hear the answer next time… The maids slapped me on the back saying they had a cup of tea and left.

“Just… I came out a bit strange… If I were to explain the circumstances in detail, yes.”

In the end, while drinking the tea that the maid had brought me, I had to explain to Lucy for a while about how I came up with such a story.

Actually, it’s not really that complicated. In short, it’s over quickly.

“Anyway, it’s also a journey at the risk of my life. Of course, I’ll have to go to the Duchy of Los Taylor, and it’ll take a lot of time, so don’t ask for help with your bare mouth.”

From noblemtl.com

Maybe it wasn’t the Ophelis Hall, Lucy’s room was extraordinarily large. This is the room where the head of the entire school stays.

No matter how insensitive Lucy is to her treatment, from the standpoint of a bachelor, she has no choice but to take care of her as much as possible.

“If it’s not barefoot…?”

A table on one side of the private room. The seat opposite where I was sitting.

Lucy sat down on a luxuriously decorated wooden chair and asked in a dazed voice.

“It depends on what you want.”

I don’t know what Lucy wants right now. However, there are some things that I can point out.

“As I explained, my father summoned me in order to restore me to the Roth Taylor family and restore all the authority and power I had lost. The problem is that I don’t know if that’s the purpose or if there’s any other intentions.”

Lucy glanced around the teacup, heard my explanation and nodded.

He doesn’t seem very interested in my story, but if you look closely, he pricks his ears and listens carefully.

“If you accompany me and my father puts his hands on me, it becomes burdensome… Eventually, I will be able to nominally regain the glory of the Roth Taylor family.”

If you don’t come up with an estimate to get your hands on right away, even if you postpone the plan to a later date, I’ll try to put it in the palm of your hand. I wouldn’t bother trying to deepen my suspicions.

If I can get things going that way, I’ll be the eldest son of the Roth Taylor family again, nominally. I don’t know if he will return to the successor position.

For the eldest son of the continent’s largest duke, the scope of what he can do is very wide, no matter how famous his position is.

“Invest in me.”

“investment?”

“If I return to the position of the eldest son of the Roth Taylors, I will do everything I can for you in that position. Of course… there’s not much you can do with a nominal eldest son.”

After all, the position of heir with real authority has been passed on to Tanya, and above all, if Crepin Rothtailer is determined to take over me, there is nothing I can do with the power of the nobility alone.

However, in the first place, my purpose was not to become the eldest son of the Roth Taylor family.

“From here on… Lucy, I can only tell you because I truly believe in you.”

“me?”

“Anyway, there’s a lot of time you’ve been carrying around.”

As Lucy nodded, swallowing a gasp, I spoke straight-forward.

“I’m going to take the creffin roaster out of the spot.”

It’s treason and treason.

If it gets into someone’s ears, it will not be strange even if you are immediately taken to the gallows.

Lucy narrowed her eyebrows slightly, but I didn’t care and continued the conversation.

“I don’t know if it will be me or Tanya who will be the next California leader, but at least I have no intention of putting my father there.”

“The reason is… revenge?”

Short and bold Lucy’s question.

Am I trying to bring down Crepin to take revenge on my father, who threw me out of the family and even tried to kill me?

If what I have is a blade of revenge, is Lucy willing to help?

After thinking deeply, I shook my head.

“I’m just trying to survive.”

“…”

“The root cause of my crises is almost always my father.”

In order to perfectly deal with the evil god Mebular, he repeated all kinds of anti-human experiments, and in the end, he tried to sacrifice the whole school.

In the process of sacrificing so many people, I know his true face, who tried to mock the Empire wearing the mask of a benevolent and moral monarch.

Perhaps the reason they tried to kill me was because it was necessary in the process.

“My father, Crepin Rothtailer, is not as clean a person as is known. If we can find evidence that reveals that fact, it may be possible to bring him down and reorganize the power structure of the Roth Taylor family.”

“…”

“I don’t have a lust for power, but I am confident that in the process of reorganization, I will rise to a higher position than the mere eldest son. You may have an authority that simply cannot be gained by simply having a high level of force.”

The power of lineage and family majesty is completely different from simply strong force.

In the end, the story goes round and round for the first time.

“Invest in me.”

He looked directly at Lucy and talked.

Sounds like if you make a mistake, you might end up on the gallows and have your neck cut off.

Only from Lucy’s point of view can it be avoided because she has great power, but I have a completely different point of view.

Even Lucy didn’t seem to know how heavy it was to share these sounds.

“I don’t… invest. It’s too complicated.”

Soon, her small lips opened, and she spoke in a dazed voice, as usual.

“You know… I’m not very interested in power or anything like that.”

“Yeah, it seems.”

These are the words that have been swearing at the bottom. He already knew that Lucy had no interest in such secular power.

“Then… what am I interested in?”

However, what followed was unexpected.

Lucy picked up the witch’s hat, put it back on, and went to the window with a light bouncing gait and opened the window.

Her white hair, loosely loose, unlike usual, fluttered in the wind.

“Hey. Am I correct that I kept the promise I made with the grandfather?”

Lucy saved the bachelor from crisis time and time again.

I always tried to do everything I could in my position.

However, the scholastic crisis that Archmage Glockt had foreseen that could not be stopped except for Lucy did not come.

Archbishop Verdio goes on a rampage, and the apostles of Telos cover the island. It was an ordeal that only Lucy could solve, and Lucy was going to bear everything by herself.

However, there was my intervention in the process, and the resolution of the problem was mostly done in my own hands.

In the end, Lucy was the last boss in Act 3, and everything was settled peacefully without going crazy.

So, in the first place, was this ordeal what Archmage Glockt predicted was correct? If it was something that could be solved so easily, why did Gloct hold Lucy’s hand and ask so earnestly?

That slight doubt will remain in Lucy’s heart and will not disappear.

Incomplete combustion.

In a corner of Lucy’s heart, who she never thought would be the end of all of this, the burden she had received from Gloct was still being dragged along one shoulder.

From noblemtl.com

Maybe it was the last chance to shake off that burden. It’s just Lucy’s point of view.

“Once I keep that promise in the first place, what should I think about living my life?”

“You’re asking a difficult question.”

“Actually, I didn’t expect an answer.”

– Druckle

Lucy closed the window again and turned her head towards me.

Then, as he strode forward, he passed the chair he was sitting on and moved onto the table.

As I sat down at the table with my eyes facing me, it was only then that my eye level met.

“Like I said, I’m not interested in things like power. If I help you… it’s because I just want to help. There will be no other reason.”

Lucy lowered her gaze and spoke slowly.

“But… you can’t go barefoot.”

“What do you want?”

“It may not be great, and it may be really great.”

Lucy clenched her tiny hand and held out her little finger.

When I looked at him puzzledly, Lucy lowered her head and spoke.

“The scariest thing for me is… I keep my promises with that grandfather… The emptiness that will come after I’ve confided all my belongings.”

The vast Lamelin Mountains.

Standing upright on the top of the coniferous tree, she was the girl who measured the size of the world without Glockt.

There is no family left, no relationships, no goals to achieve… nothing.

“Help me not to be eaten by that emptiness.”

“Specifically… how…?”

“Be the reason for my life.”

The word itself is not very specific.

There is much room for interpretation as to what meaning is implied.

Still, the weight of the horse itself was heavy and serious, so I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Suddenly looking at her expression, Lucy was neither crying nor smiling.

As usual, he looked at me with a blank face, and he was just sticking out his little finger.

If you don’t put your finger on it, what kind of expression will come to mind on that face?

Just imagining it made me feel out of breath.

Of course, that was just an imagination.

The fingers were already hanging.

How much does this mean to Lucy? It may be bigger than you think, or it may not be as big as you think.

However, I wonder if Lucy wants to hide my expression… She is slowly crawling into my arms while wearing a witch hat.

They hugged him tight and didn’t say anything for a while.

So… I spent a lot of time.

*Professor Claire’s face had no blood at all.

It was the last day of the written exam. From what I heard, he was in charge of the entire written test by himself.

It was said that the work was finished in three days, but it was hard to believe that it was a physically digestible amount of work.

“…”

After finishing the written exam, I returned to Claire’s assistant professor’s lab and found a corpse lying on the desk.

Assistant Professor Claire, she always wears a corpse-like face during exams.

Claviers Nortondale, a bachelor’s scholarship student and student assistant in Claire’s lab.

He’s the kind of person who always puts on a gloomy face and makes people around him lose his energy, but at least as a student assistant, he’s a bit quick.

“Ugh… Why… Why is everything even in the basic swordsmanship manual completely wrong… Pathetic bastard… Poor bastard…”

As you can see, he made a lot of mistakes in the written test.

It’s just small mistakes, it’s enough to just spit it out in the practical exam, and Clevius might have that level of skill… As I said before, Clevius is a human with a strangely low self-esteem.

“It’s a practical test tomorrow, Clevius. How long are you going to be so desperate? Do you really want to give up your senior seat?!”

There was a girl sitting next to Clevius and stroking him in the back. Orange hair and sharp eyes are impressive… Now they are quite familiar.

This is Elvira Aniston, who currently holds the undisputed head of the sophomore year of the pension department.

“Hey, Ed-senpai is here.”

“What are you doing here, Elvira?”

“I want to review the manufacturing theory of the elemental resistance reagent I developed. Reagent manufacturing itself is the specialty of the professors of the Department of Alchemy, but in the field of elemental resistance, it would be more accurate to ask the professors of elemental science at the Ministry of Magic.”

Elvira had all kinds of papers and flasks piled up on the table in the center of the lab.

“However, I think I got the timing wrong. Professor Claire is sleeping with her eyes open.”

I put my simple luggage down on the table and looked to Claire’s side.

Seeing Assistant Professor Claire barely breathing in and breathing out in a white burnt state, she looks more like a doll possessed by a ghost than a person.

“I deserve to die…! I can’t properly memorize one of the swordsmanship postures I repeated hundreds of times, but what’s the point of living…! And I memorized each and every character over and over again, but what is it that my hair turns white when it comes out on the exam…! What am I…? Why the hell do I live…?”

Clevius, who was screaming, suddenly met my eyes.

“What, Ed Rothtailer! Any complaints?! Are you laughing at me too?! Ha… X arm…”

“…”

“These days, people in the world seem to be inferior…?! What is that gaze! You’re looking at me like a pathetic guy…! Yeah… I guess so…! You think it’s different…? You and I are both pathetic human beings…! Don’t look at me pathetic like that!”

– Bang!

Elvira swiped Clevius’s head off the desk and took a picture.

Anise, who was looking for documents near the bookshelf, and Onyx, who had just arrived at the lab, both widened their eyes.

I… wasn’t too upset.

“Oh, Clevius. What do you have to say to your senior?”

“Elvira. What do you care! And you look pathetic to me too…!”

“Ugh, pathetic Clevius.”

“Look at this!”

Elvira laughed softly, grabbed Clevius by the neck, and spoke to me.

“I’m sorry, Ed-senpai~. I think Clevius needs a little more education. I’ll take you for a while because I need to instill some manners and also prepare for the practical exam. After all, Assistant Professor Claire seems to be taking a break today anyway… It’ll be okay, right?”

“Who are you…?! What are you doing to tell me this and that…! aah!”

“Be quiet, Clavius.”

As Clevius, who had his head stuck on the desk, waved his arms to resist, Elvira took a reagent from his arms and poured it into his head.

Little people, but cattle.

“aah! what is this! The body… the body… the strength… is released…”

Elvira made a sound as it was, and forcibly led Clevius, who was losing strength in her body.

Onyx, who was standing in that line, gently moved to the side and opened the door.

He made a fuss about it, please stop him… Clevius was dragged out of the lab just like that.

“See you next time!”

I was very moved by the lively greeting.

“Did you do well on the written test? I like your expression.”

Anise asked.

After a riot, the laboratory became quiet again.

Claire assistant professor’s lab member. Anise, me, Clevius, and even Onyx-senpai.

Compared to the labs of other professors, it is a place where only elite members gather, but Anise was known for being the most nimble in her work.

True to the evaluation, it was Anise who was still busy processing paperwork today.

“Well, I did pretty well.”

The written test scores seemed to come out at a satisfactory level. I haven’t skipped a written test once since I started school.

Even in the days of wild life leaning on a single wooden shelter, he never reduced the effort he put into memorization subjects.

Now that the environment has improved in many ways, it was only natural to be able to achieve much smoother grades.

The problem is the practical exam.

The goal of this exam is no more, no less, just the senior in the grade.

Since the goal is higher than usual, the weight of the practical test has also increased significantly.

“It’s about the practical exam… is it possible to proceed properly…? Isn’t it tomorrow?”

The thing that worries me the most is the elemental test.

Assistant Professor Claire, who is in charge of all the examination process, is now half-dead.

The elemental science class is a practical test, in which you compete with the professor in charge.

Even as a new assistant professor, I thought that assistant professor Claire would not be pushed out of Dalian against general students… Now, assistant professor Claire is not in a state where anyone can see it.

“Well, another elemental science professor will have to help… I don’t know if Assistant Professor Claire has already said something.”

– Bang!

At that moment, the door opened again.

When the innocent Onyx senior looked at the door in surprise, a middle-aged man staggered in and came in.

In addition to his ponytail, a beard that was not properly shaved is sticking out, and the smell of tobacco and alcohol vibrates from his body.

I’ve been drinking to the point where I can’t even control myself since broad daylight, so I stagger across the lab. I hit the desk, hit my head on the bookshelf, and while playing with my feet, I arrived right in front of Claire’s assistant professor.

“Hah..! crane! Professor Kaleid…! W… What’s the matter until here…”

Should I say the youngest professor’s practical sense?

It’s a bit sad to see the person waking up as soon as they notice the other person’s hints.

“Yes, Assistant Professor Claire. Are you doing a good job.. Hib?”

“Ah, yes… the written test has been successfully completed… Now, if we just proceed with the practice test as a practical test…”

“Nothing else but Dean McDowell’s way to die and break. How can a report be uploaded in the name of the youngest professor, from what I need to know about the written test to important supervisory duties? What am I replacing…”

Did you say that with your own mouth?

All the student assistants were absurd and kept their mouths wide open.

“Obviously… if I get paid, I have to work… The guy McDowell, who didn’t even make eye contact with me when he was in full swing… Now that he’s the dean, he writes bad things about me like that, so I feel a sense of crisis too. …”

Then don’t even drink. Anise seemed to be holding back those words coming out of her throat.

“Look, you’re very tired of administering the written test…?”

“Ah, yes… it’s like that…”

“Okay then… Leave the practical test to me…”

Just as Assistant Professor Claire was about to say something, he grabbed her head in his hand and then lowered her head in a flash.

“Go to sleep.”

Then, laughing as if drunk, he staggered back and came closer to the table where the assistants were sitting.

Then he pulled out a chair and sat across from me.

Anise, who was sitting next to him, and Onyx, who was next to the bookshelf, were sweating profusely.

“Oh, I’m hangover.”

He staggered for a while and made a moaning sound, and then he shook his head and spoke.

“Yes, you are Ed Roth Taylor.”

I couldn’t ask how you know me. After all, he’s Claire’s assistant professor. If he had wanted to know my identity, he would have been able to find out.

However, I couldn’t figure out why he was talking to me like this.

Professor Kaleid staggered, but spoke with a fairly clear pronunciation.

“Tomorrow is the practical exam.”

“Yes, yes, but…”

“Then… Shall we open a game?”

“…Yes?”

*There was a time when the Chloel Empire was in the midst of a war with the Ain people.

It is a story of the past, no longer a story in history books.

Now, they were pushed to the edge of the Northern Territory and their power was weakened, but at that time, they were strong enough to threaten the name of the empire.

In the end, the power of the Ain people rushed to the very front of the emperor Chloeron.

There was a hero who led the war in front of Emperor Chloel’s army in the end even in a desperate battle situation.

He is Obel Forsius, the guardian of the zodiac.

And the three young wizards who helped him.

Zellan the Severer, Glast the Seeker, Kaleid the Outlaw.

Now, there are those who have grown old and disappeared as old men in the back room, others who remain active duty and train the younger generation, and there are scholars who tragically ended their lives.

There was a time when everyone worked together in their field, but now they are all disappearing behind the times.

Is it the will of fate that Kaleid, who had wandered the world, escaped the flow of the times and returned to the teaching profession?

I thought that I would never reach out to the teaching profession, but why did I just nod my head as if possessed by the request to fill Glast’s vacancy?

It doesn’t make much sense to come up with a reason for it now. At least Kaleid thought so.

On the other hand, Ed Roth Taylor was stunned.

[ After a while, the practice of the Elemental Practical Test will begin. Please come up to the Ed Roth Taylor Student Arena. ]

Khalaid, an outlaw who has wandered through the Cohelton Lawless Zone for many years and disappeared.

The first time he appeared in front of students after returning to work as a professor was a practice match.

Ed, who stood on the dungeon, was still confused.

To see Kaleid’s skills, even students from the Combat Department and Alchemy Department, unrelated to the test, flocked to see Ururu.

Even students from other grades have come to hear the rumors. When Tanya Roth-Taylor, the student council president, appeared in the crowd, there was silence in the crowd.

The battle training center of the Obell Hall.

Professor Kaleid was standing there with his hands tucked into the pockets of the professor’s white coat and rubbing his dark circles.

You may feel that way bc the transitions weren’t as clear. Normally when the story changes to a different scene or transitions it’s marked with a “*” and nothing else, but in this chapter the “*” is moved to the start of the first sentence of the next scene, so it’s less clear.

Is it me or is their parts of the chapter missing?
