How to Survive at the Academy chapter 142

How to Survive at the Academy 142

End of term assessment (6)

“You are that student assistant, Anise Halan. Rumors spread that he is much more nimble than any other assistant professor.”

Anise covered her nose at the heavy smell of alcohol.

It was a habitual act, but come to think of it, it was rude in front of a senior professor. Anise himself wanted to take care of himself, but Professor Kaleid didn’t seem to care at all.

Kaleid, who came into the lab with a drunken appearance, glanced at Claire assistant professor, who was still in a corpse state.

Now, Claire’s assistant professor looks like a corpse like that. I can’t remember the last time I saw Claire in a not-tired state.

In addition to the rush of work, personal research was conducted, so even ten bodies would have been insufficient.

“Ah, hello. Professor Kaleid.”

“There’s no need to even make such an insect-chewing look.”

“Hey, did I make that face?”

Professor Kaleid glanced around the lab, scratching his ponytail.

It has been a week since the end of the semester exams were finished. After this weekend, it’s vacation season.

“What… It’s time to relax in the lab. The student assistant was the only one who went to work. Well, it’s time to prepare for vacation.”

Professor Kaleid took a crumpled paper envelope from his pocket and tossed it on the assistant’s central table.

“Hey, what is this?”

“This is a letter from the central office of the university this morning. I heard that the results of the exam at the end of this semester have been calculated.”

“Is this the sexual data?”

“okay. Among them, a list of the top 20 students by grade came out.”

Basically, it is a policy not to publish students’ grades, but as a motivator, the top 20 top scorers by grade are posted on the exterior wall of the student center every semester.

I came here to take care of the cleanup of that material. Usually, the senior professor sorts things out himself, but Kaleid wasn’t that fastidious.

“Check the list appropriately, organize it neatly, and post it on the Student Union side.”

“Okay.”

Anyway, Anise was in a state of empty hands.

As the semester came to an end, the amount of work allocated to Claire’s laboratory was also greatly reduced.

It’s a break that has come a long way. Assistant Professor Claire was lying on her desk and getting a good night’s sleep, so there was no one to give her any other work orders. As a result, he was doing chores, such as organizing the materials that had passed the storage period.

“Hmm… .”

Anise picked up the envelope that Professor Kaleid had thrown away and swallowed dry saliva.

Anise boasts of outstanding skills in writing grades thanks to her meticulous personality, but her practical performance still lacks a lot.

The desire to get a high score and get a scholarship seems like a chimney, but I couldn’t do that because of my poor grades.

This time, I wanted to put on a glimmer of hope, but… .

“Oh right. I don’t have your name, Anise.”

Annis, who was pounding and tried to open the papers, was hit with a death sentence first.

As Anise looked at Kaleid with her ax eye open, he shrugged and closed the cigarette.

“So what. You have to see it with your own two eyes, and your heart only hurts.”

“profit… eww… .”

Anise shook her head and took a deep breath. Actually, I wasn’t expecting that much.

If this is the case, the most curious part is Ed Roth Taylor’s grades.

Ed Roth Taylor recently rose to prominence while performing in practical exams. This is because it does not end with a reputation as a simple hard-working group, but has actually achieved a number of achievements.

He is considered to be the only student who can emerge as the new senior in the third year, defeating the undisputed No.

Other graders may not be interested, but among the third graders, there is quite a bit of interest… Anise was also quite curious.

One of the best things about being a student assistant is that you have access to this information first.

“Whew… .”

It wasn’t even her grades, but Anise was starting to get a little nervous again.

In the first place, Anise has a crush on both Yenica and Ed.

Considering the fact that one of the two will not be able to rise to the top position, a heartbreakingly saddened heart breaks through.

Still, the scales in Anise’s mind were leaning slightly more towards Ed.

Yenika is a kind, sincere, and close friend among the close friends she had a deep connection with. It’s a very precious relationship, but Anise found herself in Ed’s face as he was trying to get his bones to go away.

Anise is also aware. This is a kind of self-identity.

The path of the man who had survived by grinding his teeth without background or talent would never have been smooth. It seems that his life is superimposed on that life.

Anise knows the value of a life that has endured like that. So, that effort must be rewarded.

Just because she was Yenika doesn’t mean she didn’t try. It wasn’t hard, and life wasn’t rough.

Still, Ed and his efforts are completely different.

“where… .”

Anise took a deep breath and swung open the envelope that Professor Kaleid had handed her.

A bunch of papers from inside. Looking at the front page, the top row, Anise’s face instantly lit up with a color of anger.

However, let’s review those details for a moment… Anise’s gaze began to cool little by little.

[ Look at these wings, Master Ed! When you open it up like this… You can even cover the upper body of Master Ed! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! ]

Mug laughed loudly and coughed as if she was choking.

It was also last week that Mug’s phase shifted into a Lieutenant Spirit. I mean, it’s been like that all week.

[If you make a fuss like that, Master Ed’s magic might be overloaded. ]

[That’s right… ! For now, I will refrain from setting fire. Stop because I’m so excited! Thank you for your comments, Lacia… ! ]

[Why are you still using respectful words, now the same Lieutenant Spirit? ]

[Yes, yes? ]

On the other hand of the bachelor’s bench at sunset.

Before returning to camp after finishing my bachelor’s work, I was sitting on a bench eating a light meal.

Today was the closing ceremony day to wrap up all classes for a semester. Now that there are no classes left, there is no need to come to the faculty building until the vacation.

So, I wanted to finish all the work to be done in the professor dong during the day.

The North Forest camp I live in is a bit far from the gallows wing, so I didn’t want to keep going in and out of this distant gallows wing because of a few trivial things to deal with.

[I, how can I… ! That’s right. Now that I am a Lieutenant Spirit, I have an equal relationship with Laysia-sama… ! ]

[ right. ]

[ Still, I can’t put it down right now… . My heart is not ready… just… Can I take it slow… ? ]

[ … … . ]

Mug was sitting on the back of the bench flapping her wings, and Lacia was lying on the marble floor, licking the soles of her feet. As I watched the two of them arguing with each other, I felt strange for nothing as I remembered myself having a strange nerve battle with Bell Maia.

[ You’re fussing over something that’s not a big deal, sweetheart. And ed no horsepower where it was like it used to be. I can handle two lieutenant spirits, so don’t be too upset. ]

From noblemtl.com

Meanwhile, Merylda snorted as she flipped through a thick book in the corner opposite the bench. it’s terribly silly

“Two lieutenant spirits can handle it, but you are a bit heavy. Come to think of it, it’s always on my side, not on Lucy’s.”

As I said that, Merylda in human form narrowed her eyes and shook her head.

[He has a lot of mana, but he hardly ever goes to the faculty building. I want to visit the library often, but if I follow her, I have to walk to borrow books with this uncomfortable body every day. The same goes for returns. ]

“Have you already read all the ten books you borrowed last week?”

[ Art history has a lot of material pictures, so it’s thick, but it’s not very practical. ]

Having said that, he hummed while flipping over the bookshelf. I was about to say more, but I decided to leave it alone.

[ Seeing that the sky is dyed red, the sun seems to be setting slowly, Master Ed. Shouldn’t we be dealing with the backlogs? ]

Lacey asked politely.

“okay. I need to clean up everything I ate and get to work. I have to go to the Trix building and apply for a bachelor’s scholarship for the next semester, and Professor Pllavin told me to take the rest of the textbooks if I need them, so I’ll have to stop by the lab.”

[You are very busy. ]

“There is a lot of work to go back to. First… I finished the exam well, so I should prepare to go home. You have to arrange a wagon, and make sure who will accompany you.”

I’m sure this vacation will be a big watershed in my life.

The more thorough the preparation, the better.

[ When are you planning to join Ms. Jenica? Aren’t you going home together? ]

“After I finished my work, I decided to meet at the student union.”

I added as I put away everything I ate.

“The grades for this semester have come out.”

As I let out a deep sigh, I finally realized it.

I acted like it was nothing, but I was also somewhat nervous.

..Student Hall at sunset.

The nail salon stands majestic against the red-dyed sky. There are students all around.

The list of the top 20 people proposed by the bachelors came into view at a glance.

When I entered the entrance of the student center with all kinds of papers and books wrapped around me, the eyes of the students were already on me.

The moment I heard the gossip, I already had some intuition.

Due to the structure of Sylvania’s grades, the name of the chief is rarely changed.

And the moment I saw that I was up in the name of the 3rd grade chief, I slowly closed my eyes.

― ‘Gee, really, Ed Roth-Taylor took the 3rd year senior… !’

– ‘Honestly, I think it can be. He worked very hard… .’

― ‘Don’t you know that a senior position is given to anyone for living harshly?’

――――’

――――’

As I slowly closed my eyes and found peace in my heart, the murmuring noises around me faded little by little.

Memories rewind In an unbelievable environment, the past years that I have endured with this grimace are overlaid on my black eyelids.

The years when everyone looked at me with contemptuous eyes wherever I went. Gone are the days when I had to endure only with will and effort because my body was wretched and my talents were low.

After enduring and overcoming all those trials, he eventually rose to the top of the grade.

It took 1 year and 7 months. I hardly slept properly during that time.

Some will say that they achieved incredible results in a short period of time, while others may say that it does not make sense to endure it for a long time.

Long or short, it doesn’t matter. Anyway, I persevered, I made it, and now I am proudly my best in third grade.

It has been strangely heartbreaking. I was determined to silently accept whatever result came out, but when the results of my hard work came into view, it seemed as if a wave of emotion was coming.

what to do I was a person too. It is unavoidable that emotions are overflowing.

I barely opened my eyes, grabbed my luggage and checked the documents on the wall again. No matter how many times I check, the name at the top of the sophomore year was Ed Roth-Taylor.

“Whew… .”

took a deep breath.

After falling into this world, have you ever experienced such a deep and immense sense of satisfaction? At least it was when the first hut was completed.

I read the details of the notice with a heavy heart.

The specific grades of the top students were written under each name. The gender gap between me and Jenica was quite wide. It was surprising.

From noblemtl.com

My grades were calculated without errors. And, the moment you turn your eyes to Yenica’s sexuality… I felt a strange sense of discomfort.

For a moment, I narrowed my brow and frowned.

“Ed… ! Edgar is the chief… !”

At that moment, Yenika came out from the back through the students. The eyes of the students around us turned to us in an instant. These days, I feel like I’m getting a lot of attention.

“Ahh, I’m the second seat in the end~. In the end, Ed won… !”

Yenica’s expression, as she approached her while rolling her feet, seemed to be somewhat refreshed.

“Jenica.”

“Uh, huh?”

“I have something to say. Let’s go to a place where there are no ears to hear.”

I grabbed Yenica’s arm as it was and walked out of the crowd. A murmur followed, but I didn’t want to worry about it now.

“Ed? huh? Ed?”

After leaving the crowd for a while, he released Yenika’s arm.

Yenika was also twitching her fingers with a look of nervousness.

“Eh, Ed why are you like this?”

“Did you intentionally miss the written test?”

no reason to go back I just asked straight up.

After reading through the detailed grades, I felt a great sense of incongruity.

Yenika’s main specialty, Spirits, and Monster Ecology, her writing scores were strangely low.

It is difficult to do a practical test that shows the actual ability to respond, but in the written test, you can ‘control’ the score. In particular, it is easier the more you know the main subject.

“To me… Did you yield to the chief?”

When asked that question, Yenika shrugged her shoulders once. After all, she is a girl who can never lie.

“… I got a lot of tea… ?”

“Why did you do that?”

“no… Because of the disciplinary action I received last time, I can’t even get a scholarship if I’m top-notch. I can’t even enter the Ophelis Hall… .”

Yenika continued to wiggle her fingers and talk shyly.

“Ed was also kicked out of the Ophelis Hall, but at least he can get a scholarship… .”

“Didn’t you say that you work hard even for the thought of supporting people from your hometown? .”

“Well, the second seat is definitely great. and… My expectations were heavy… As I lay in camp and pondered, I thought I might as well step down from the senior seat.”

Saying that, Yenika wiggled her tail. Then, Bessi smiled and added.

“Ed isn’t the type of person who gets good grades because he’s a senior. At first, I thought that it would be right for Ed to be the senior in the third year.”

He took a deep breath at those words.

I thought this senior position was the result of my whole effort. This is also the reason why I felt a great sense of bliss that made me short of breath.

However, the truth is that it was all conceded to Yenika.

Looking at the grades, even if Yenika took the notes properly, I didn’t know if she could rub them.

So my grades were higher than I expected. In reality, I don’t know what would have happened.

In fact, it seems to be a thing of the past.

From noblemtl.com

My longing for a senior position was a testament to my hard work, but in the end the perks that came with the senior position were key.

They were completely in their hands. Thankfully for Jenika’s consideration. In fact, that’s how it happened.

“Yes, thank you.”

I spoke softly like that.

His expression and tone are the same as usual. Without much change, as always, he sincerely thanked Yenika. In times like these, you need to be more mature.

“Thank you, Yenika. Even if there were no other special privileges, it would not have been an easy decision to let go of the senior position… There will be eyes around you… .”

“No, no… ! Edgar always suffers the most… !”

“Anyway, thank you. Don’t forget this grace.”

Having said that, Yenika’s expression is not very good.

He just tilted his head as if he felt something strange.

“Eh, Ed… ?”

It was the moment when Yenica, who had been contemplating for a long time, was about to ask a question.

—Sassak.

“You two were here.”

A poignant yet gentle voice. It was the voice I heard a lot in Claire’s lab.

Anise came out from the back of the bench, wiping down his voluminous gray hair. It looked as if he had been looking for us for a while.

“Ah, Anise… ? Hey, what’s going on here… ?”

“We decided to go to Laplace Bakery today. Clara and the three of us to commemorate the closing ceremony. Yenica blinks every day.”

“today? He, was it?”

Anise strides towards me, swishes past me, and grabs Yenika’s arm tightly. However, in the meantime, I forgot to say hello.

“Hello, Ed.”

“Have you finished your lab work? ?”

“Okay. I’m sorry, but I’ll borrow some Yenica. I had a prior appointment, but I must have forgotten.”

Anise grabbed Yenica, who tilted her head.

Yenika murmured that she didn’t seem to have made such a promise no matter how much she thought about it, but Anise told her to remember it well and dragged her out like a half-abduction.

“Oh right.”

However, before disappearing with Yenica dragging her away, she turned her head behind the setting sun and told me.

“Congratulations on being senior.”

“Yes, thank you.”

So anise… He took Yenica and disappeared in a flash.

“… … .”

The sun is setting in the western sky. It was early evening before, but now it feels like it’s one step closer to becoming real night.

I sat down on a nearby bench, placed my hands on the backrest, and looked at the sky.

After that, I had to go back to the camp and check the things to do.

Now that I think that summer vacation is coming soon, I realize that I still have a lot of work left to do.

Suddenly, an unfamiliar sigh escaped.

The red sky was very beautiful.

* * *

“Why did you do that?”

“… Yes?”

“Yenika, you made a mistake.”

Anise, striding along, grabbed her arm. The arm she was holding strangely tight came aching, but Yenica couldn’t speak because of the pain.

So Anise dragged Yenica for a while… After getting far away from Ed, I sat Yenica on the flower bed.

Anise bowed her head and paused for a moment.

I hadn’t seen Ed Roth Taylor for a long time, but I was aware that I was identifying with him at some point. Self-objectification is Anise’s main specialty.

So, I thought that his hard work by clenching his teeth should be rewarded.

And given the result, even if Yenica had not made concessions, he might have taken the lead. Only now was it left as an unknown possibility.

When she found out about that fact, Anise let out a sigh.

“Actually, it’s not that serious. Yenica, I guess you meant something bad. It’s probably just because I like Ed, and I want him to do well.”

“that… Talking so straight forward makes me feel so… A little… .”

“By the way, Yenika. Don’t you remember the days when he worked so hard to get a senior seat?”

Anise pressed Yenica’s blushing forehead firmly and spoke only there.

Yenika just kept her head pressed down and made eye contact with Anise.

Eventually, Yenika imagines Ed’s position.

The days when I saved even the time to sleep and worked hard without wasting even a little bit of time.

The moment he was informed that he had worked so hard to win the senior position, but that the result was nothing more than a ‘concession’. Ed’s feelings then.

Good intentions do not necessarily mean good results.

However, Ed responded to Yenica’s demeanor with a grown-up thank you note.

After gauging that far, Yenika’s breath suddenly stopped and went inside.

“… … .”

“Yes, Yenika. You should know now.”

At the side of the bachelor at sunset, Anise sat next to the flower bed where Yenika was sitting.

“If your standing position is high, just because you’re kind doesn’t mean it’s good.”

Summer nights come a little early.

Now that summer has come, the darkness is also deeper than usual.

Sitting on the flower bed and watching the setting sun… Yenika bowed her head.

Anise didn’t say anything uselessly, just sat there quietly next to him.

“… … .”

“… … .”

So, the final exams are coming to an end.

Senior 3rd grader, Ed Rothtailer.

Because the weight of the name feels heavier than usual… .

The two girls sat side by side like that, looking only at the setting sun.

I love Yennekar as a character, and as a match for Ed, but this chapter definitely made me kinda pissed off at her ngl. That was a dumb decision and now we don’t even know for sure if he’d actually have made it to the Senior position, which is especially disappointing after such a blissful reaction from the MC

Hope this doesnt turn into a huge drama
