I Became an Academy Mechanic Genius chapter 8

8 - Commoners say mana conversion?

8 – Commoners say mana conversion?

Edgar Fix.

The more you dig into him, the more interesting he becomes.

From the talent to create things to the heart to treat people.

And to the perseverance to stick to your own beliefs.

The more I got to know her, the more I realized that she was not an ordinary person.

‘Still, I can’t get enough mana.’

Still, there was something that didn’t work.

Just as an earthworm cannot become a dragon no matter how much it wriggles, each person has a wall they cannot overcome.

For Ed, that was the ‘ability to manipulate mana’.

“…That must be difficult. Mana is not something anyone can handle.”

mana.

In order to deal with mana, there were conditions that must be met.

That is the constitution that can accept mana.

In other words, it was an innate body.

“To handle mana, special physical conditions are required. You have to inherit that nature from your parents, or you have to be exposed to a space with high mana concentration from an early age.”

But Ed fit neither of these two.

It wasn’t that he inherited a special constitution from his parents, nor was he exposed to mana from an early age.

It was clear that the mana felt in his body was close to zero.

“So just to Olin…”

“I already knew that.”

However, Ed gave an unexpected answer this time.

He replied that he already knew that he was incapable of handling mana.

“As the professor said, you have to be born with a special constitution to deal with mana. Or somehow change it to a special constitution before the age of 7.”

Elena’s eyes widened.

Judging from the nuances of what he said, Ed seemed to already know everything about mana.

Then why did he bother to ask himself to learn mana, even though he knew he couldn’t learn mana?

“……What do you want to say? Surely you don’t want to say that you can handle mana after birth, right?”

So I asked just in case.

Did you learn mana by chance?

Surprisingly, Ed nodded without hesitation.

And he spat out words that were completely unbelievable to Elena.

“Yes. It worked because I practiced. Of course, it still lacks a lot. That’s why I need your help.”

It worked because I practiced.

It was so absurd that it made me laugh out loud.

Of course, dealing with mana was no different from controlling a body that is impossible for ordinary people.

In other words, it was like saying that you can freely manipulate the body that cannot be controlled with muscles such as nails or hair.

“Handling mana… how do you practice?”

So it worked because I practiced it was nonsensical nonsense.

No matter how much you train your finger muscles, you can’t freely deform your nails, and no matter how much you force your head muscles, you can’t handle your hair as you please.

Likewise, unless you made it into a constitution that could accept mana before you were over 7 years old, you couldn’t handle mana no matter what.

“I can. Although conditions are necessary.”

But Ed said he could do it and stood up.

Then, after standing in front of the full-length mirror in the corner of Elena’s office, she looked back at Elena and said,

“if. If I show you how to handle mana, will you accept me as a disciple?”

“…”

…If you prove that you can handle mana, you will be accepted as a disciple.

Elena’s shoulders shook.

Ed’s proposal was so reckless and challenging that he burst into laughter.

However, even in the midst of this, it was Elana who had some expectations.

If you are Edgar Fix.

If he was the one who surprised himself every time, he thought it might be possible.

“Then, let’s take a look. However, if it fails, we will assume that there is no donation support.”

So Elena stopped laughing and looked at Ed with serious eyes and said.

It was because dealing with mana acquired innately, and dealing with it as a mediocre commoner, was not something to be taken lightly.

But Ed nodded without hesitation.

He smiled softly.

nobility.

For nobles, mana is a privilege.

The biggest difference between common people and themselves is the presence or absence of mana use.

So they instinctively hated commoners.

In order to strengthen their power, they had to breed with the same ‘special constitution’ to pass on a body that can handle mana to their descendants.

So, if it were another noble, he might have been outraged by Ed’s suggestion to try using mana.

For Ed, a commoner, to use mana is to challenge their authority.

‘But Elena is different.’

But Ed knew.

That she, a commoner, did not have that kind of authority.

Just looking at the fact that she came to him and apologized after reaching that high-ranking position, it was a part that showed how lateral thinking she was.

‘I’ll accept it as long as I prove myself.’

So Ed decided to pull out the super-precipitation card.

He decided to prove that he could use mana.

Ed started practicing ‘Mana Transmutation’, which he had been grinding and polishing with all his might over the past two months.

Mana particles floating in the air penetrated all over his body, creating a blue haze.

“… how is this?”

And to Elena, the sight was shocking.

To think that a person who could accumulate mana in his body just by working hard would appear.

Historically, such figures have been few and far between.

Khadgar, Lanseldorf, Cain, Belderoth, and himself.

Only these 5 people were the only ones who were not nobles and were the only ones who realized mana on their own.

‘But they were all young…’

But they were all young.

In other words, it means that he did not miss the only time to awaken mana.

But Edgar Fix was different.

He is already 18 years old.

It was an age far beyond the only age at which mana could be awakened.

Physically, it was impossible for him to awaken mana.

oh oh oh…

But a blue haze rises around his body.

That was definitely a typical phenomenon that appeared when mana conversion was performed.

Besides, Elena could feel mana building up in his body.

Even though he was over 7 years old, he was able to perform mana conversion on his own.

“How did you do mana conversion? Did your mother have an unusual constitution?”

An unbelievable sight to see.

He asked Ed that question even though he knew it wasn’t Elena.

Ed shook his head and replied.

“Nope. Both my father and mother were commoners.”

“… Or have you already awakened to mana before you were 7 years old?”

“Nope. I just woke up recently.”

“Isn’t it because you were too young to remember?”

“If you woke up at that time, you should have mana in your body like the professor. But look at me. If you don’t concentrate, mana evaporates naturally.”

Ed stopped the mana transformation while saying that.

Then, the mana contained in his body began to evaporate slowly.

This proved that the sensory organs capable of accepting mana had not developed.

In other words, Ed had never awakened to mana before the age of seven.

“How is that possible? I can’t believe it even after seeing it.”

Elena muttered that and sat down on her chair.

It was because I was shocked enough to lose strength in my legs.

‘Well, it was filthy difficult to come this far.’

And Ed was reminiscing about the past.

So, about two months ago, when I first possessed the body of ‘Edgar Fix’.

It was a memory of despair after realizing that his body could not handle mana.

-Why do you have to be a commoner? Ohhh!!!

Why is this body?

I thought it was a really odd fate.

You have to be able to handle at least mana to be able to enter the ‘Imperial Imperial Academy’, but to be possessed as the son of an ordinary blacksmith.

Moreover, since he was already 18 years old, it was impossible to awaken mana.

He ended up possessing a complete third-rate extra.

– There must be a way.

But Ed didn’t give up.

I did not choose any means and methods to learn mana.

There was even a time when he suffered from pain for several days after grinding and eating mana stones.

-Wait, what if I use my ability?

After a month of continuous shoveling, Ed suddenly came to a realization.

It was an idea that if you use your own ability, mana conversion will be possible.

Ed opened the status window and checked the help for that ability.

[Lv.2 Engineering Thinking]

:Able to understand all the scientific knowledge required to implement a certain technical mechanism.

‘Engineering Thinking’, a skill that helps to understand technical mechanisms.

Ed has been using this skill to craft equipment.

Mainly, when villagers entrusted ‘manufacturing requested items’, they were able to understand the engineering knowledge of the item they wanted to make at once by using AS skills.

-What if you use this on me?

But how about using this on yourself?

Since he himself is just an organism made up of numerous minerals, how about thinking about giving a substance called ‘Edgar Fix’ the ‘property that can accommodate mana’?

Ed immediately ran the thought experiment.

– Hey!

But the result was a fiasco.

It’s just that this idea didn’t do what he wanted.

It seemed that other conditions were necessary for the skill to activate.

Ed thought about it again.

-····!

How long did you keep worrying like that?

Ed finally found the answer.

The answer was the level of ‘engineering thinking’.

-Your level is insufficient!

Insufficient level of skill ‘Engineering Thinking’.

In other words, the mechanism was too complex to carry out his own thought experiment, so the skill did not activate.

The difficulty was too high for a level 2 engineering mind to understand an organism as complex as the human body.

– Let’s make the idea more concrete.

So Ed stood in front of the mirror.

I decided to look at myself squarely and try to materialize my thoughts a little more.

-Applies the property of mana dwelling in Edgar Pix’s hand.

Therefore, what he tried was not ‘Edgar Fix’, but ‘Edgar Fix’s body part’ to give mana-accepting properties.

But it rarely happened.

Even if the range was limited by hand, the skill was silent.

-Edgar Pix’s eyes are endowed with the property of mana dwelling.

Still, Ed did not give up.

Hands, feet, chest, abdomen, even the knuckle.

I mentioned all the bodies that could be, with the feeling that only one would be taken.

Dig!

How many thought experiments did you do?

Ed finally found a way.

Let’s think ‘Ed gives Fix’s frontal lobe the ability to accommodate mana for 3 seconds’, the engineering thought was triggered and the whole process of accepting mana was understood at once.

“Now, are you ready to teach me, Professor Elena?”

and present.

Ed was able to contain mana for 20 seconds thanks to his efforts, and by showing the result to Elena, he was able to pass her test.

Elena stood up and said.

“Follow me. From now on, you are my unofficial disciple.”

  1. Bronya's armpits licker says:

Ed will be a herrscher of reason if he think enough

  2. Comment above idk how you reading,

Elena has already showcased why she said those things. It was to make sure Ed doesn’t get involved with nobility since he doesn’t have magic just like he told also ed probed himself with other works and also you seem to regard ed as innocent di you even take time to think how it would feel if a stranger suddenly came in and started to chime in your limp cat without even knowing the professional standard they hold it akin to letting a highschool student handle a medical operation he to made a mistake.

She also doesn’t detest any commoner she simply lives on a noble-like background that diminishes the way she sees the commoners, do you think most of the super-rich kids would view all the other kids the same? No, they also choose to be friends with those who have talents or something of value. Hating her is understandable but pinning her on all that hate is not.

  3. Dusk says:

Although it’s accurate with how most nobility see commoners, I still detest Elena. From the first time she presented her biased views on Ed, I hated her; and even though she apologized, it doesn’t change the fact that I hate her.

Nothing major happened to her. I want to see some real punishment, enough to make her discard her biased views; not these mellow thinking of just recognizing a talented person, but still retaining her views — Ed is just an exception to her, everyone is still lowly commoners.
