99 - The Secret

99 – The Secret

“Thank you all for your hard work. It is thanks to all of you hard work.”

Mina, who served as the representative, spoke to the crowd.

Everyone seemed exhausted from the short but intense fight.

But her face brightened with relief that she survived this time too.

It’s because I somehow successfully stopped their invasion once more.

Hye-na and Eun-byeol are also smiling softly.

From what I’ve heard, the two of them did quite a bit of work on this battlefield.

Based on the mobility of the ‘Best Driver’, the treatment and guerrilla support of the saintess Eunbyeol.

Not only did he change the unfavorable battle situation several times, he even healed people.

It seems that not one unit has been helped by them.

People came up to them and greeted them.

If there were two people who played their part the most in this war, there would be two of them.

Anyway, everyone was happy that the invasion was successfully stopped.

The only depressed people are me and Yuri.

‘It was a waste.’

As I quenched my appetite, I remembered the battle with Lancelot earlier.

Me and Yuri managed to seriously injure Lancelot through a linked attack.

However, the bastard managed to avoid fatal wounds by displaying unbelievable skills.

Another undead suddenly appeared and even blocked our way.

A human would have suffered enough wounds to die.

Unfortunately, he is undead.

While we can’t be certain we can’t decapitate.

As the invasion time ended, Lancelot also disappeared.

‘I could have taken it down if I had had a little more time.’

As well as Arondite.

Suddenly, more hidden subordinates popped out as well.

Is it the influence of being a knight in a previous life?

Lancelot was a boss monster who valued safety much more than expected.

Maybe even the time limit was in the calculations.

I could have killed him without the two variables.

That’s why I feel even more regretful.

It would be nice if he appeared injured in the next battle as well.

I can’t say for sure that it will.

Besides, the reason this attack was able to succeed safely was because he was careless.

Because I didn’t know if I could use my skills to generate such power, even momentarily.

Even if you use the same tactic, there is a high possibility that it will not work.

Of course, the fact that Yuri and I were able to confirm that the other person was possible somehow was an advantage.

‘I want to increase my power and kill it, but there aren’t enough strong players to do that.’

Is there anything else you learned from this fight?

For some reason, it was impossible to respond to Lancelot’s attack even once.

It’s fortunate that Eunsol, who went with us, is good at tanking using robots.

If it was someone else, he would have been split in half and died on the spot.

That said, he is not an easy opponent to the point of fighting while only caring about his comrades throughout the fight.

A vague ally is rather a hindrance.

‘If it’s a power that can be added, Hyena will keep her distance through driving. Is Eunbyeol holding her gun in check from afar?’

She should be able to dodge his attack from a distance if it was Hyena, who showed her evasive maneuvers close to her feat last time.

A bullet containing Eunbyeol’s divine power will be effective as well.

Looking at the current situation, the damage might be greater if the two fall out.

I wonder if it would be better to defeat the boss quickly than to continue the war of attrition.

This wasn’t something I could decide on my own.

Mina also tends to pursue her safety as much as possible when it comes to war.

“Ah! Kyung-woo, are you seriously injured?”

“Um, sorry. Because I was a little careless.”

I was thinking about that, but a little later, Noh Kyung-hee appeared.

He seemed to be a little uncomfortable, probably injured in this fight.

Eunbyeol stepped forward.

“Show me, I will treat you.”

“Ah, this is fine. Because her body is strong. Rather…could you take a quick look inside the village?”

“Yes? Inside the village?”

At someone’s question, Noh Kyung-woo nodded heavily.

“It looks like damage has occurred to the village as well.”

The Haeundae Group’s line of defense is focused on preventing the invasion of zombies as much as possible.

However, it is practically impossible to block all places with a limited number of people.

Although I’m trying to block them by calculating as much as possible the way they’re attacking.

I couldn’t do anything about the undead, who were aiming for a slight gap.

Of course, most of them are small and weak individuals.

The problem is that even those weak zombies are lethal to ordinary people who are excluded from battle.

One person was killed by the undead infiltrating the village.

Two more are missing.

Including the girl who gave Yuri a paper flower.

“… ….”

Hearing the story, Yuri’s face sank heavily.

Once the people, including us, started a quick search.

But even the body could not be found.

Perhaps he was stranded while fleeing to another place.

In the worst case, you could be eaten by a monster.

“Whoa, being young is unlucky.”

“…Everyone is exhausted, and a lot of people are injured. You can’t just put people in search.”

There is a lot to do before and after the war.

The invasion has just ended, so even if we put the next war on the back burner.

Cleaning up after the war is a very labor-intensive task.

Not everyone can just focus on finding people.

Even so, it was surprising that everyone quickly regained their composure.

People here are accustomed to losing meaning, good or bad.

It seemed like he was accepting his child’s death faster than he thought.

Actually, that girl isn’t the only one who died today.

During the wars that have been going on, victims have continued to come.

It is difficult for them to pour their emotions into each death.

Because it is a reality that we have been immersed in work, or forcibly pretending to be happy and ignoring it.

‘That’s a little ironic.’

It felt strange to see people who were so peaceful and friendly, already getting used to the death of a child.

Maybe that’s what war is all about.

The fear of death and the fight inevitably make people impoverished.

Maybe it’s because it’s a ‘ruled’ war with a fixed time and scope for an invasion, so maybe they’re keeping this level of reason.

Anyway, our party didn’t pay attention to it and quickly searched the area.

Hye-na, who rode a bike, and Yuri and I, who had high physical abilities, traveled farther than the others.

However, we also vaguely knew that this was useless.

It’s not a kind world where a child left alone can survive this long.

I don’t necessarily describe it in the novel.

The first and most dead on the back side must be children.

“Whoa.”

Yuri, who had been running around for quite some time, let out a deep sigh.

Her face showed a lot of thoughts.

‘…Maybe it’s complicated.’

As she has said many times, Yuri was a knight in her previous life.

It also makes a name for itself, and works hard to protect people.

The girl she was close to and even told her to come back alive disappeared.

Although we haven’t met for a long time, and we haven’t had any special exchanges.

Her bright smile still lingers in my head.

The child who was laughing a few hours ago has completely disappeared.

No matter how cold-hearted Yuri is, there is no choice but to be nervous.

“…That’s strange as expected.”

It wasn’t long before Yuri muttered that.

“What?”

“This war.”

Yuri perched on a nearby rock.

Then pointed at me on the other side.

Sit down.

Obviously, it wasn’t meant to be a rest, it meant that there was something to talk about.

I immediately sat down, feeling a strange atmosphere.

“What is strange?”

“The damage on our side is too small for the scale. Surprisingly, many survived.”

The reason I couldn’t understand the words was because what I was focusing on was the ‘death of a girl’.

I didn’t expect such a strategic level story to come out.

“Doesn’t that mean that she prepared well?”

“The damage is too great for that.”

“……I don’t know what you mean?”

Instead of answering Yuri, she quietly closed her eyes.

“I went through many invasions fighting destruction in my previous life. And most of them weren’t this light.”

“Is it light?”

“Think of the monsters and enemies we faced in the quests. At least they were stronger than zombies.”

It certainly seems that way when you listen to it.

At least the fanatics from the previous quest were more threatening than the zombies.

“The reason zombies are dangerous is their overwhelming quantity. No matter how strong a person is, there is a limit to how many people can kill at once. In that sense, there are not a few zombies that appeared this time…….”

“…They didn’t bother to spread the invasion to various places. If they were going to attack at the same time anyway, it would be more efficient to target only one spot.”

From the standpoint of blocking, you never know where they will come from.

However, it is not possible to stop only one area.

Dispersion of personnel means a decrease in defense power.

As much as the moment it is invaded naturally, the defense there is clearly pierced.

If the barricades and defense lines are not properly constructed, the damage will increase several times.

‘Did you deliberately use a strategy that undermined the undead’s strengths?’

I can’t even make an excuse that my intelligence is low.

The boss who commands them is a former knight from a legend.

Distributed attacks are not even the characteristics of zombies in the first place.

“For that matter, boss monsters are absurdly strong. Even if you and I now fight together, it’s an opponent whose victory cannot be guaranteed. In a normal case, it’s a quest that you can’t beat forever.”

In order for a player to become stronger, he or she must get a chance in the process of clearing a quest.

The limit is to earn points and buy better weapons.

But even that is impossible in such an isolated area.

No matter how many zombies you kill here, the amount of coins you can get is less than 200 at most.

However, half of them go out as common coins.

A limited area called a village.

Zombies attacking enough to be able to disperse and win.

In contrast, an overwhelmingly strong boss.

It’s like…….

“Are you looking at me on purpose?”

“At least from my point of view, it is certain that it is a bizarre quest.”

After saying that, Yuri stood up from her seat.

“To be honest, I find this town itself a bit strange. I don’t think there can be such a peaceful world in this destruction.”

The words of Yuri, who is reincarnated, have a special sense of weight.

Certainly, this place would be overly peaceful if there were no invasions.

As if only this place was a different world.

“I felt uncomfortable from the beginning, but I didn’t say anything… ….”

I felt like I knew it without having to listen to the back story.

It must be because of Mina.

Precisely because Mina is Hyena’s younger sister.

If you doubt the structure of the village, you will inevitably doubt Mina, the representative of the village.

‘Come to think of it, Yuri didn’t cooperate with the village even before we came.’

From noble mtl dot com

Maybe she felt something strange from then on.

“Destruction is an ordeal for mankind. But that’s not to save humans. The goal is to make it die, or to overcome it and make it stronger.”

I nodded at Yuri’s words.

And I thought I could understand why he said this at this timing, when it was just the two of us without anyone else.

‘There must be a need to find out.’

There is a secret in Haeundae Village, where we live.

Apart from what the outcome of that secret will be.

Well I doubt it’s the case, seeing Lancelot’s personality and the suspiciously missing(not killed by zombie) people, but there is a possibility that the quest is basically test their courage like MC said before or the boss monster being sadistic by slowly whittling at them until they’re slowly die one by one and the rest to despair until they also die.

After all just think about it, even if only, let’s say 1 people die each time they fight. Eventually be it months or years, their warriors will be depleted because the rate that they can replace they’re warrior is less than the rate they can get new ones(I mean just having babies will take ~9 months, raising them up until they can fight will take years), sooner or later they will have to get their children to join the fight and slowly but surely they will all die. The best chance for them to beat the quest is before that happens because by the point they have to get their children to fight they really have 0% chance of beating that boss.
