I Was Summoned To Be Sold as a Son-in-Law chapter 40

I Was Summoned To Be Sold as a Son-in-Law 40

40 – Current Affairs

“Lady Olivia is a level 4 wizard, right?”

Olivia raises her head and proudly answers Maria’s question.

“That’s right!”

Maria smiled bitterly at her and continued her words.

“Our Tom is a level 2 wizard.”

“….?”

Perhaps it was such a shocking declaration that even Marquis Hex, who was still keeping her head down, raised her head and made a blank expression.

Olivia shook her head and exclaimed.

“That can’t be possible! Then how could such a large-scale magic…!”

As I learned in magic class, the magical power in the body increases the more it is used.

The rate of increase becomes faster as high-level magic is used.

So, the ignorant level 1 multi-parallel magic I used is also considered the eccentricity of a high-ranking wizard.

The man first revealed by the Anderson family, and rumors of a high-ranking wizard. Because of that combination, a false rumor spread that I was that damn sorcerer.

‘How should I explain it…’

If I were to say that I used someone else’s magical power, they might look at me strangely, or they might look at me as a test subject. Like someone said, you will be dissected.

I think the wizards of this world would have more than enough.

While I was struggling, Maria opened her mouth.

“Tom woke up a while ago. The rumors are true.”

“……!”

The mother and daughter across from her look at Maria in astonishment.

Likewise, me too.

‘What are you thinking?….Ah…’

But then I remember hearing a story about a sorcerer.

– When you awaken as a sorcerer, your heart changes into a dragon heart and you are given vast magical power.

Reminds me of a monster old man.

Of course, that old man could easily have done what I did in the theater.

Furthermore, the gap between magic level and magical power also creates probability.

Maria decided that it would be less risky to reveal that she had awakened as a sorcerer rather than as a ‘person who uses the magical power of others’, which is unprecedented in history.

I realized her intention and let out a deep sigh.

“Ha….. There’s nothing I can do about it now that it’s come to this. The rumors are true.”

“……!”

The two mother and daughter across from me turn their gaze from Maria to me and look shocked again.

Despite my awkward acting, the mother and daughter’s reactions were excellent.

‘If I become a streamer, I will be successful.’

“That’s why our Tom can’t be the Lady’s teacher. He can’t be said to be excellent simply because he has high magic power.”

Maria announced her intention to decline in a soft tone.

I nodded as if agreeing with him.

But Olivia’s expression did not change.

“I didn’t want to learn his magic knowledge! In a critical moment, quick judgment and the ability to put it into action without hesitation! If you stay around him like that, you will definitely learn something!”

Beside me, Marquis Hex nods.

“And if you awaken as a Sorcerer, it won’t be long before you easily surpass this Olivia. If you need it, I’d be happy to help you there!”

‘Then who is the teacher…’

“But…”

When Maria opened her mouth again in an awkward tone, Marquis Hex struck her.

“Don’t you, Maria, know the meaning of establishing a priestly relationship between wizards?”

“……”

Marquis Hex’s subtle question left Maria speechless.

‘What does it mean?’

When I asked an ominous question, the Marquis of Hex continued as if to answer it.

“The relationship between a priest and a priest is sometimes deeper than a blood connection. Wouldn’t this bring about a drastic change in the relationship between families?”

“But don’t we have differences in our positions?”

Maria answered a little coldly.

Well, this and that are the same marquis, but their factions are different.

It’s not that different, but they are semi-chief level families of hostile forces.

I also wonder whether it is to the extent that peace between families can suddenly be established just because children have a priestly relationship.

“To be honest, we Marquis are in each camp to balance each other’s power. Actually, we don’t have any feelings between us, right? It’s the operatives who have feelings.”

“Even so, I feel that if our relationship suddenly changes, the balance of power that the Marquis spoke of will be disrupted.”

Maria spoke the truth. But the Marquis of Hex was still relaxed.

“Now the center of scale has changed from the country to the border. The time has come to unite internally due to external threats. If so, wouldn’t we be able to take the initiative by striking first among ourselves?”

‘Isn’t this a bit dangerous statement?’

At first glance, Marquis Hex’s words can be interpreted as ‘Let’s beat the duchess and do something in these difficult times.’

No, not at first glance, but almost openly.

“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear what you just said.”

Even Maria’s normally soft tone hardened and she took a sip of her tea.

“hahahahaha, don’t be so blunt. In fact, these are all just excuses. The real purpose is to covet a connection with Thomas-kun.”

Marquis Hex looks at me for a moment with a slightly burdened look in his eyes.

“My intuition is that Thomas will play a big role in the chaotic times to come.”

“……”

Maria was speechless again.

‘Are you saying you agree with that?’

What on earth can a guy like me without any magic power do…

Honestly, now I think I’m lucky that I didn’t receive any special benefits from another world.

Because I am incompetent, I have no expectations and I am not sent to fight anyone.

Even though he had to give a speech in a dangerous place, didn’t he use the country’s strongest people as escorts?

As I crossed the firing line, I realized that fighting for one’s life requires a stronger mentality than I thought.

I always saw a hero leaving to catch the devil in cartoons, but I never thought about it from his perspective.

Just as my thoughts were about to wander, Marquis Hex added a comment in a subdued voice.

“Besides, I can roughly guess Anderson’s situation. Wouldn’t it be better to have more allies to look after you? Besides your in-laws.”

Maybe these words were the final blow, but Maria had a resigned expression.

“……I’ll discuss it with the head of the family. I don’t think it’s a matter for me to decide on my own.”

Marquis Hex smiled as if he had received approval.

“I hope you get a positive answer!”

Just like that, her mother and daughter left.

“I’m tired…”

I opened my mouth as I watched the Hex family carriage leaving.

“I see…”

Maria standing next to her also looks a little tired.

Even she, who seemed infinitely more affable compared to me, seems to be in awe of her mother and daughter.

‘After all, everything is relative…’

It is sociability. In other words, personnel power is also relative.

Even a person who is popular compared to me can be a bad person to someone else.

As I watched the carriage turn the corner and disappear, I secretly hoped that the Anderson family would reject this proposal.

———————————

A dark room with almost no light, with only one candle lit.

It is the secret basement of the second largest building in the empire’s capital and archipelago.

Two men and one woman are gathered together.

“Has the time finally come for this guy to make his first appearance?”

A man holding a crystal ball the size of a child’s head in one hand asked another man.

The man holding the crystal ball was a large, macho type with thick lines, but he was wearing a researcher’s robe that did not suit him.

“Okay. Pass it to her.”

The man who appeared to be of relatively high status was also of great stature. However, his body was not just lumpy; it was like a well-made statue. And his hair was a vivid golden color that shined brilliantly even in the dim light.

The man in the lab coat holding the crystal ball accepted the blond man’s command.

But he passed the crystal ball almost as if he didn’t want to touch the woman who was there.

The man with golden hair looks at the woman holding the crystal ball and speaks.

“Naomi, proceed with your kingdom plans without a hitch.”

“Okay~ But, have you thought about my suggestion?”

Niaomi smiled brightly and asked the blonde man, but his expression did not move.

“That’s a dismissal. He has to come to the empire and perform an important role. If he breaks down before then, it’ll be in trouble.”

“Hmm~ Then what happens after you play that important role?”

The blonde man still answered with an expressionless expression.

“Good. I’ll hand it over to you after that.”

“Hey~ You have to keep your promise! Then I’ll come back~”

Leaving behind her words, Naomi disappeared from that place without a trace.

“How dare you?”

A vein of anger appeared on the forehead of the man in the lab coat who was glaring at the spot where Naomi had disappeared.

It was unworthy of that demon to speak informally to her own master.

“You held up well, Dean.”

The blonde man praised Dean, the man in the lab coat, in a still dull tone.

“You didn’t have to make that promise, right? Duke Martin.”

Dean asked a bit harshly.

Then Duke Martin changed his expression for the first time.

He said with a faint smile.

“She will never get what she wants. She will be an empty shell after the ritual.”

When Dean saw his smile, he got scared and cowered as if he had never confronted him before.

I genuinely hate those cliches plots of being forced to accept the unilateral demand of someone else when there is no reason to. It only makes me hate the character that force the request (Olivia here), irritating.
