His Captain could make the statement you are speaking of, but I think that he is already fully aware of king’s real goals (like almost everyone else – kings plan is too easy to understand specially after he was trying to destroy both elves and werewolves before).
Kings statemen was a warning. To the human duke – you will obey, or I kill you. To the captain – take the nobility and shut up. And to Berg and Saintes – cooperate and you can marry each other. Bergs wives are members of the two noble families which should be destroyed at this time already so the human mercenaries are interfering with kings plans by sawing them and making an alliance with them.
@FlashRead66 while a good statement if such an order would go into effect, its a shallow thought. Such a comment can be countered with just stating that such a rule will not take effect till the next heirs are the heads of their noble house. The next generation and after will have to follow the new law while the old just keep to themselves and trying to break the new law(Like trying to get more wives) will have them lose the wives they already got.
And to add extra flavor cause of what we know of the king, he can make it so once such a law takes effect people with many wives will have to pick the heir within a year. With this going it can cause wars in the human families(Who are the only one effected) will fight themselves, something the king seems to want for after the war when their power is higher with us knowing Breg will be a sort of figure head cause strongest human.

Nah, I bet the goddess does not care. For one she gave a vision of Breg dying to her but here we see Breg doing just fine in the battlefield. The vision was just a trick to get the saint to do all that bad stuff so that everything can go poorly in her relationship with Breg. Saintess loses her lover but the goddess gained a perfect saint for 7 years and increase the faith in the world.
Or I am just spitting out random stuff and the goddess does have a big plan. Korean novels love to hate on the divine most of the time and its a habit to see them bad on my part cause of this.
