Omniscient First-Person’s Viewpoint 217

Long ago, humans were essentially beasts.

Hands that can grasp tools and tongues that can shape language are praised as gifts from God, but in fact, they are not particularly distinctive compared to other beasts when it comes to flirting. It was just a useful personality, just like the other common beasts had.

Man was just one of the beasts that roamed the earth.

If there was food in front of him, he ate it and tried to scatter his own seeds. To live, to survive. It was literally a desperate effort, so it didn't matter the opponent or the situation.

The effort involved hunting the same humans and making them prey. Murder, rape, extermination, robbery. All of them existed as common sense in the savagery without being named.

And no one blamed it. Because it was perfectly normal.

Like all other beasts.

Then at some point. Man has found dignity.

Despised barbarism and established laws and morals. When the first saint fell to this earth and the king of men disappeared, man truly became the ruler of the earth.

Treating all barbarism as taboo and burying it before history, they stood above the world and decided what was right and what was not, justice and injustice. In it, man discovered prosperity and order.

However, it is only buried in the sand to the last. Taboo is still… existed

“No way, no way… . Nicholas. Would you do something like that?”

When Rankart heard the unexpected news, his eyes widened and he covered his mouth with an open book. His eyes were trembling with disgust and fear, like seeing a monster covered in human skin.

“I can not understand. I don't understand how, no matter how you think. Even if you are not in a position to choose the means… this, this! That's too much!”

He was so terrified that even he, who was not at all intimidated, trembled violently. Weeping, holding his arm pathetic, Ran Kart roared wildly.

“How, how can you think of feeding so inefficiently! If you have materials… ! Even in order not to waste the lives of those materials! It must be completely devoured!”

Rankart is a wizard. Magical officers have the right to read all kinds of ancient documents due to their nature. Rancart by chance… To say the least, he found a little blatant taboo.

And when he came across some confidential information about the taboo, he cheered and immediately went to Nicholas. I pretended to have found it by accident while researching for a friend and held it in front of him.

The plan was successful, but only part of it.

Rancart, who spit out his strong emotions, pulled out the knowledge in his head and organized it.

“Class 1 taboo. gluttony. Forbidden rituals to kill, strangle their throats with blood and flesh, and gain their power. The easiest, the most terrible taboo.”

It would be difficult to even call it a taboo. 'Gluttony' itself is a common occurrence in our daily life.

Crops that have been painstakingly crafted for a long time, or the meat of animals that have been raised by eating them. Humans take it and become strong. It chews with its teeth and passes it through the throat, embracing it in his body, growing his own body, gaining the magical energy and energy that permeated it, and becoming healthy.

Quite simply, gluttony is a generic term for the act of eating something.

“But fundamentally, what is outside the body is different from what is inside the body. No need to disassemble and make your own. So gluttony is very, very inefficient. To transform something, it requires a fair amount of loss.”

Therefore, it is taboo. Those who tried to gain power through this gluttony ate tens of thousands of lives in order to become as strong as a speck of dust. Those who have historically been called tyrants, calamities, or demons have often gained power in this way, and most have been subjugated. Even if I eat 100 to get the power of 1, the karma I've accumulated over the years has grown so large that I can't handle it.

… However, gluttony does not have to be done on such a large scale. Some humans who value efficiency have found a slightly more efficient way.

“We learned the same qigong for three years, developed similar magical powers, ate the same food, and had the same biological cycle. There are too many, too many similarities to be called different people. What a perfect situation… As if they had this in mind from the beginning.”

It was common. Among the secret organizations that are said to be small in size, there are many cases where orphans are harvested and raised together for a long period of time, leaving only one and devouring them all, so there is no need to mention it.

It was clear that gluttony was one of the reasons the military established the school. However, that taboo has never been enforced until now.

It was a surprise for what he had prepared, but Rancart clearly understood it.

“but. Neither me nor that boar woman need it at all, at all. It doesn't make any difference if she eats only a hundred or two. Historia bitch actually won against two hundred people alone… .”

The world stands on rationality.

The reason why the military has not sacrificed one hundred students so far to give power to one is because the one-of-a-kind artificial superhuman that was created was not worth more than the other hundred.

Not because it's a silly justice or moral issue, but because it's irrational.

then.

“but. I hope it has a meaning to Huey. That guy… Only the magnitude of the power is not enough. He has enough handling skills.”

If a case arises that it is more reasonable to devour power. What will the military do then?

I heard you feel the same way.

It's a taboo that everyone taboos.

So far no one has tried.

Are you going to ignore rationality by doing denial only to deny it?

“The military has passed the test. Would it be worth working in this country… .”

After a brief deliberation, Nicholas decided to feed Huey the students. However, he took a slightly inefficient method. It was not meant to cause them to kill each other, but to put them in a crisis of death.

162 students, excluding the 38 students from Rankart, Historia, and other occupations, were going to be in distress while going up the Hameln River for training. You will have to survive for two days in a forest inhabited by wolves, wild boars and crocodiles.

… Perhaps, there is a taboo promotion in the camp. So that someone's blood can be food.

“That method is terribly vulgar, but that’s it, as long as I can get my hands on it. But Nicholas, why did you use such an ambiguous method… no way?”

While searching for rationality, Rancarte was stunned when he thought of a possibility. It was an absurd hypothesis. Confused in my opinion, he grabbed his belly button and started laughing out loud.

“Maybe, maybe Nicholas. Do you think Huey will kick that chance? haha! ha ha ha! I hope, I hope! It can't be! he's a genius Sadly, worse than me! Do you think such a monster is only bound by something?!”

He laughed for a while, and at a certain point he stopped laughing. The sudden silence that came to me gave off a more eerie feeling in contrast to the madness of the moment.

Rancart smiled as if to deny the hypothesis, or to make it negated.

“This is a test, Huey. I, I believe in you More than anyone, even more than me… If you are talented I will not miss this opportunity.”

Rancart murmured darker than ever… .

“Thank you for trusting me, Rancarte. But I don't know if I can live up to your expectations.”

“Eh? Why is that bastard’s name popping up here?”

After the written test, while everyone walked out exhausted, Historia and I sat leisurely in the shade outside the test room. The two of us seemed out of touch with the exam.

In fact, it was far apart.

Historia, before entering the military academy, whether or not to put a star on it is an irregular story that goes back and forth day after day, and I was number one because it was a constant walking grade limit.

I shrugged and answered Historia's question.

“ah. This time, as expected, I think I’ll be number one.”

Historia had the biggest smile ever made today.

“I’m sorry! That bastard, he wore a book every day saying he was going to win this time.”

“right. He worked hard.”

Thanks to you, I've seen some benefits too. You can just read what he studied and use it as it is. If there is something missing, you can refer to someone else's.

To me, exams are like jigsaw puzzles. Pick it up properly and check if it fits, or if you want it to fit after filtering it, just tap it and stick it. Then, the mental pleasure of fitting into the empty space stimulated me.

This was quite fun.

I only read the mind, I don't know the answer. When someone asks you that you are sure that the correct answer is number 3, there are cases where both of them get along well.

A test is an event to learn the gap between belief and reality, not to get the correct answer. It may not have been what the military wanted, but it made a significant contribution to mind-reading training.

“In my opinion, I think this exam was also first place. Tell Rancart. 1st place is only where I am not.”

“Giggle. Can I convey those words as they are?”

“Pretend I didn’t dare allow it. That bastard, I hate the sight of me being hypocritical

“This is my specialty! I never get tired of seeing that child disassemble every year!”

“… Leah. But you, minus the added points for your practical skills, your score is lower than that of Rankart.”

Historia grabbed my shoulder with a smile on her face. A grip that crushed even a tin canteen was about to test its strength against my bones.

“Yes? day off. Just one more word, will you reveal everything about moves 1 to 7 in the Dalian exam?”

“sorry. I was wrong.”

“If you hadn’t matched the moves with me, you could have been in second place. Be careful in the future. Don’t be shy.”

Historia, who was joking around and smiling as usual, bowed her head and rested her head on my chest. Her black hairs sprouted from the top of her head and filled my vision.

Historia whispered softly with her face buried.

“… Graduation practice, be careful.”

with a bang. As if she had ever shown her weakness, she immediately tilted her head and grinned. Her long braids of hair moved as vigorously as hers with her vigorous movements.

“hey! When it's over this time, you've got to decide where you're going! The future changes depending on which military academy you go to!”

“okay. You have to think about it too.”

“It’s good to think well! If you feel like you have nowhere to go, come to my lieutenant! I'm going to be a general, so I can give you a seat for four!”

While suppressing her anxious mind, Historia is excited to talk about a bright future. Why are you anxious? After reading his thoughts, he didn't know anything about gluttony. Did I instinctively realize something?

Or are you just a little afraid of graduation and parting itself? like other children.

I don't know. Human emotions are so complex.

I, too, responded by pretending to be bright, following her wishes.

“a. There is Gao though. How do you go from being a third-ranked lieutenant to first-class?”

“Second place!”

However, the bright appearance now is probably possible because I don't know about gluttony.

if.

What would happen if Historia found out about gluttony?

Will you affirm or deny it?

I do not know. I'm a mind reader, but I don't know the future. just guessing

“History. If something goes wrong… Can you help me?”

“… What are you talking about all of a sudden? Where are you going to die?”

But I can't say. This is one of the secrets that both Nicholas and Rankart have kept secret. If I, who is a student, notices the conspiracy surrounding me, I will definitely be questioned for the source.

You shouldn't be found out that you've had mind-reading, and you shouldn't have any doubts that you might. I can't make my only weapon useless.

We share everything, but that's why I'm so alone. I wondered why it was me, but no one answered.

I shrugged and said indifferently.

“It’s just that I’m scared. It's the infamous graduation practice. It is said that even those who die will come out king and king.”

“You acted like a coward.”

He said so, but Historia had a happy face. She smiled brightly and shook her head.

“I’ll save you. Instead, if I save you, will you become my lieutenant?”

“Coming to think of it, it is ironic that the 1st place asks the 3rd place. cancellation. I'll just do it myself.”

“hey!”

Waving my hand at Historia, I headed to the meeting point.

A place where many people go, but few come, where the practice of one-way traffic begins.

  1. Mtl thoughts… says:

Mtl is making it hard to tell if Rancart is against or for using gluttony on Huey. It seems like he didn’t like it, especially when he said it wouldn’t even be useful, but that might’ve been more that he was upset they would waste “resources” in an inefficient ritual. Hmmmm…

    1. Pop says:

Rancart is for it. He is the one who suggested it in the first place. He is indeed just mad about wasted recourses.
