Regression Is Too Much chapter 99

99 – The night is too dark (8)

“No, this, that,”

“It’s okay…” “

Baron Jorge smiles and says he’s okay, even though he doesn’t look okay at all. A trickle of blood flows from his mouth.

How did this happen? Why? Why? Just as his hair was turning white and his breathing was becoming difficult.

“Elixir.”

Yes. Elixir. There was elixir. Elixir is a reward obtained on the second floor. I haven’t written it yet. It can be saved well.

“Wait a moment, just a moment.”

I put my trembling hand into my arms and took out a small glass bottle. Yes, even though it is the lowest level, it is an elixir. A wound like this…

“Huh?”

The glass bottle with an old-fashioned design was empty. The golden liquid that should be inside is nowhere to be found.

“… “

Looking closely, there was a crack in the glass bottle. It looks like liquid is leaking out through the gap.

“No way…” “

A kind of cool sensation felt in the chest during battle. The feeling of your body’s fatigue disappearing and your concentration increasing at the same time.

“No…” No… “

During the fierce battle, the elixir bottle must have broken. The elixir was seeping out and steadily recovering my body.

“I can’t…” “

It was definitely helpful. But because of that, Baron Jorge cannot be saved now.

To be honest, it doesn’t matter if all the other residents die. I was planning to return anyway. I felt sympathy for them, but they were essentially strangers, and I had no feelings beyond that.

But Baron Jorge… It was constantly intertwined. Even if you don’t want to give your heart to them, there is an unavoidable affection that builds up. I promised that I would protect you. That person is dying right before our eyes. The situation I was most wary of has become a reality.

“William. William Smith. You can use recovery. What are you doing? “People are dying right now.”

“… Sorry.”

“Anything… Try something… “

I know that you are being unreasonable. William Smith is incredibly tired. He probably used his recovery ability to the point where he couldn’t move anymore.

Will there be a regression? Came all the way here? I have to see the end, right? Wouldn’t it be right to endure it? Are you going to let me die though?

Jaw.

Baron Jorge carefully holds my hand as I worry.

“… Jun Ho. To you… I need to apologize… I have work to do….”

He was spitting out each word in a strained voice.

“That day… Day 3… At the entrance… “

I knew right away when we were talking.

Night of the third day. Just before the monsters crossed the castle wall.

Baron Jorge and I talked about various things in the hallway and discussed our future plans.

“At that time… I lied… “

Baron Jorge barely pursed his pale lips.

“Actually… Monsters are specifically targeting us… I said it didn’t seem like it, but… “

“… “

“… They… They were clearly targeting us, the people of the territory… I felt eyes on me… “

A teardrop falls from Baron Jorge’s eye. His eyes fill with remorse.

“I’m sorry… I’m afraid you’ll abandon us… I’m afraid that all the residents of the territory will die… I tricked you… “

Lastly, Baron Jorge held my hand tightly.

“Thank you… I’m sorry again… “

With those words, I stopped breathing.

“… Under.”

This is absurd.

“To that extent… I already knew… “

Sir Thomas covers the body with a cloth.

It is said that Baron Jorge pushed his lord Jimin when he was in danger and injured him instead. I finally understood why the otherworlders were so quiet. It was a moment of silence.

“… “Is everyone out in the hallway to honor the Baron?”

“… No. The room… “It is because it is used for a separate purpose.”

“… Ah.”

Currently, there are more than 100 people filling the hallway. But in other words, it means that only about 100 people survived from the initial 300 people.

When monsters die, they turn into a halo of light. However, the corpses of otherworldly people and players remain.

Where are all those corpses?

“… “

I also had no choice but to join the silent procession. What on earth should I say in this situation? If I opened my mouth, it seemed like all I could come out was a sigh full of sadness.

You made a good save? Is it because I was active that I saved this much?

This kind of positive thinking is impossible. There are no winners or losers in this situation. There are only losers and worse losers.

While I was gritting my teeth and quietly looking down at the floor.

“Junho.”

I heard a voice calling me, so I slowly turned my head and checked my back.

From Noble mtl dot com

Dahye Baek.

Baek Da-hye, her eyes so swollen and red as to burst, was waiting for me in front of her door. The flesh on her shoulder was dented and healed, and it seemed as if William Smith had taken action against her.

“Junho.”

Baek Da-hye repeats my name. Her voice is hollow. It was as if something had been torn away, not just from her shoulders, but from her heart.

But it’s difficult for me too. I’m not in a position to talk to her right now.

“… Dahye. I, I… I’m having a hard time right now. Not right away, maybe contact me separately in real life… “

“Junho.”

Suddenly, an ominous thought struck me. A creepy feeling crawls up her back and tightens the back of her neck.

“… “No, right?”

“… “

“Tell me no.”

“… “

“Ah.”

Ang Gyeong-nam is lying on the floor. The expression is relaxed, but the space where the lower body should be is empty.

It’s not just Ahn Gyeong-nam. Dozens of players were spread out on the floor and covered with cloth.

“I wanted to tell you our story.”

Baek Da-hye begins her conversation calmly.

“After Junho pushed the monster away, the players were worried.”

Should I follow Kim Jun-ho now? Or should I just hang on here?

If you hold on, survival is semi-certain. We have prevented it well so far, and thanks to Kim Jun-ho, the number of monsters has been killed right now, so there will be no major crisis in the future. There are winged monsters, but as long as you’re indoors, it won’t be difficult to stop them.

But then… The aliens are exterminated. They had no means of protecting themselves after moving to the second floor. I don’t know if Kim Jun-ho protects him, but judging from the last scream he heard, he is not in his right mind right now.

“At that time… “This person insisted that we step in and help.”

Baek Da-hye points to a dead body with her chin. It is a face in my memory. This is the woman with her chin sticking out, arguing why we must sacrifice for the otherworldly people.

The woman who insisted that it was right to abandon all otherworldly people changed her mind at the last moment of her life.

When the strong man began to persuade, the atmosphere changed. The players rushed out of the room and moved toward the second floor.

“The situation was bad. Junho temporarily cleared the path, giving us time to move, but that was all we got. Monsters began to flock through the remaining passages.”

Aliens are herded into a straight hallway, and players guard both ends. They made the best judgment in a moment of crisis.

“But…”

Clocking the entrance to a narrow room with a small number of people is a different story than blocking a passage. Even if it was a superhuman like Kim Jun-ho, ordinary players couldn’t withstand that pressure.

After some scared people ran away. The remaining people couldn’t even shift and had to grit their teeth and endure. And that’s how he died.

“The people who died… Are the ones who stayed until the end. There are probably more people who ran away. They are probably hiding somewhere now. Waiting for time to end.”

People who did the right thing died. Those who cowardly ran away survived.

“I think Junho made the right decision. I think he did what he had to do.”

This is a woman who consistently showed sympathy for people from other worlds. She is the woman who Gyeongnam emphasized so much for being soft-hearted.

“But… Gyeongnam died trying to protect me. Now I don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong.”

That woman was quietly looking down at the other person with her dead eyes.

“…I’m sorry.”

It’s my fault.

I thought I had to protect the people of this world, so I pursued an unreasonable plan.

Other people are not returnees who have experienced dozens or hundreds of battles like me.

Other people are not people who have only experienced difficulty levels like me.

Other people are not people like me who set grandiose goals and climb the tower.

This place is only the 4th floor. Even though the tutorials were hellish, it’s still too early for people to become skilled enough. I’m only relatively good at it because I took my time writing it.

“Je… It’s wrong… “

Even if they didn’t cooperate with my plan, they were ordinary people who had just ascended to the 4th floor and did a good job.

But because they were so kind, they went out of their way to protect the otherworldly people. And died.

“…”

The moment I lowered my head, a message window appeared right in front of my eyes.

[Cleared the 4th floor.]

I slowly raised my bowed head and found myself on the first floor. I wasn’t even given a chance to be forgiven by Baek Da-hye.

Thump.

The first floor was a room of a luxury hotel that I had temporarily changed, and a large box fell on the other side of the room. It’s probably a reward for the 4th floor.

“… “

I couldn’t even think of checking it and just lay down on the bed.

I slowly catch my breath and quietly shed tears. Sorry. Sorry.

At the time when my eyes were so swollen, I finally started making plans for the future.

Selection. Select. Select.

All of these tragedies are ultimately the result of my choices. There were wrong choices and there were right choices.

As a result, the person died. Because of my choices.

But I am a regressor. There is an opportunity to correct wrong choices.

By repeating life over and over again, I can eventually come up with the perfect answer I want.

Yes, there is no need to apologize. All you have to do is fix it correctly.

“…”

But… When will I stop? When will you be satisfied?

Is it really necessary to completely conquer the 4th floor?

Let’s say Baron Jorge is saved. Let’s say we save the glasses man too. But what about the rest of us? Do I really need to live?

Tutorial? The tutorial produced perfect results. However, the 4th floor is different from the tutorial.

The 4th floor lasts for 5 days. Just repeat 10 times for 50 days. If repeated 100 times, it is 500 days. Even people are dying. The negative influence it has on my mentality is enormous.

Should we repeat this terrible experience and save all these people?

On the second and third floors, I made a small compromise.

On the second floor, I did not return because I was afraid of meeting the Archangel again, and on the third floor, I did not return because I was afraid of what would happen to me if I saw Dok Su-hee again.

It is easier to compromise.

These are people who would have died helplessly if I had not been there in the first place. It is correct to say that more people survived because of my intervention.

I have done enough. There is no need to overdo it. Let’s just compromise accordingly.

“No.”

Clench your teeth tightly. I think of the corpse of the man with glasses I just saw. I remember Baron Jorge holding my hand tightly.

I remember Choi Ji-won smiling in the vacant lot of the tutorial.

“I have to do it.”

It is different from the 2nd and 3rd floors. It’s a matter of people’s lives. Skipping now is no different than leaving a small gap in your heart.

Even if I seem fine right now, someday, starting from this moment, I will definitely break down. No compromise.

Of course, saving all the people on this crazy level of difficulty?

It is impossible. But you have to do it.

“If not me, who will do it?”

Because it’s something only I can do.

I like how much mental anguish the MC experiences over having to redo all of the harsh experiences. An average person would never be able to hold the mentality of iron through all of this, breaking down is inevitable, and I find his struggle to be very realistic.
