Incompatible Interspecies Wives chapter 120

120 - If I Hug You Now (4)

120 – If I Hug You Right Now (4)

“…………Bell…?”

I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve called that nickname.

The most lovely words that flow out of your mouth.

Shien was holding back her tears as best she could.

I can’t believe this ridiculous situation.

But if that man wasn’t Berg… I couldn’t tell who it was.

Why are you here? I don’t know how it got here, but…

…Shien was never as mistaken as Berg.

I could notice him no matter how far away he was.

It was the same even if he hid in a crowd of hundreds.

Berg was easy to find.

Even if he doesn’t show his face, from his back, from his profile, or from his mood, from his gait…

I was able to recognize Berg somehow.

Just because he didn’t raise his head, or because he was sitting in the dark, it didn’t mean he was unrecognizable.

Are you dreaming?

Sien’s heart, which began to run furiously, refused to subside.

“…Bell…Is that you…?”

Tears ran down my cheeks.

Her shoulders began to tremble relentlessly.

Her world sat there.

There was a childhood friend I grew up with who hugged me, protected me, and whispered love to me.

“…Huh…Say something…”

“…I didn’t want to say that…”

A man sitting in the dark quietly opened his mouth.

That familiar voice.

He raises his head.

The dim moonlight illuminated his face.

“…Still pretty.”

It was Berg.

There was no doubt about it.

However, more than her delight, a greater astonishment enveloped her first.

-Tak…

Shien covered her mouth with her hand.

The many, many scars on the face of the man he loved.

Especially, there are even deep cuts on the cheeks.

Hundreds of more scratches and wounds that should have healed were all over his face.

Berg had lived a rough life, but this was a different matter.

They were scars you wouldn’t have if you didn’t fight every day.

“Ah…Ah…”

Shien couldn’t hold back the tears any longer.

A reunion that should be full of joy is full of wonder and sorrow.

Why are you hurt so much?

What the hell happened in the meantime?

“…How are you?”

He asked with a short smile.

There was a subtle anger and irritation in it.

I feel that I am holding back my emotions.

Now he says.

“…I was having a hard time.”

Shien shook her shoulders and covered her face with her hands.

“…Bell…”

She calls that name over and over again.

When I met him, what he most wanted to say was that he missed me.

I wanted to see you to death. I wanted to tell you that I was going crazy because I missed you.

But plans always go wrong.

That wasn’t the first thing she said.

“…Why are there so many scars…?”

“…”

Her karma was not over yet.

She was still in a situation where she had to push Berg away.

But I wonder if it is because too much time has passed.

Maybe it was because I missed Berg so much.

Is it because I got up from exhaustion?

I no longer had the strength to push him away.

Berg also let out a long, heavy sigh, as if trying to calm his emotions.

And then he says.

“…Because I became a mercenary.”

“…………”

At those words, Shien’s heart hardened coldly.

Even her tears froze.

Shien stared blankly at Berg.

There was not an inch of lies in Berg’s eyes when she said that.

“…What?”

“…”

A mercenary.

What the hell are you talking about?

Her heart felt like it was sinking into the ground.

She’s been living as a farmer, she heard.

What the hell does she mean by being a mercenary?

“…That’s…”

The long-awaited reunion keeps flowing in a negative direction.

Shien raised her voice without realizing it.

“That…What do you mean? ……Are you a mercenary?”

“Literally.”

Shien opened her mouth.

I couldn’t think of anything other than this.

“Yo… I decided not to be a mercenary-“

“- How dare you…!”

Berg finally raised his voice.

Shin’s short words seemed to touch his wrath.

In an instant, his emotions flare up.

It was like lighting a cloth soaked in oil on fire.

His eyes began to stare straight at Shien.

Burning rage began to bloom around the eyes.

“…Don’t you dare bring up past promises…!”

He speaks as if to not tarnish innocent memories.

“….”

After being silent for a while, he calmly spoke again.

“…These are the ones you broke yourself.”

In contrast to the calm voice, clenched fists.

I can feel him struggling even as he speaks.

Shien couldn’t figure out how to respond to him.

It was a meeting I had been looking forward to so much… Maybe it was because I wasn’t prepared.

The head became a blank sheet.

The situation where Berg was angry with him was so unfamiliar.

I knew he would be angry, but it’s harder than I imagined to face him.

Shien reached out and retrieved her hand.

I resist the urge to be hugged by him even now.

The two resolved the small fight while hugging each other.

But it was different now.

Berg was still untouchable.

She tried to hold on to the opposite s*x somehow.

“…Ha.”

Berg sighed.

Feeling how vivid his wounds were still, Shien’s heart ached endlessly.

Even in that situation, she seemed to restrain herself.

“…Let’s just have a nice talk and then part.”

I expected him to be angry.

But I didn’t expect it to be this cold.

I missed you, but why are you already saying we should break up?

I know we can’t be together yet…Why aren’t we regretting it?

“…”

Anyway, before that, the story of the mercenary was the priority for Shien.

She couldn’t give up on this part.

It may be because she has personally experienced the horrors of war.

I couldn’t wait to see him in such a dangerous place.

He has sacrificed himself for the past seven years, not because he wants Berg to roll in the war.

The reason I volunteered here and there without anyone’s help was because I wanted Berg to be safe.

“…This, first of all… It’s not too late now, Bell… Even now… If you quit your job as a mercenary…”

“…What are you?”

Berg asked coldly.

He’s the exact opposite of how he was when he told me he was pretty.

It was as if my patience had run out.

“……Huh?”

At the words that completely denied the relationship, Shien’s foundation was shaken.

Again, I couldn’t reply to that short bug.

I couldn’t believe he spoke so coldly to himself.

There were definitely words that were declared to him.

There were scars he gave.

I didn’t mean it… But it’s still unresolved.

I was the one who asked to end the relationship.

Selfishly, I didn’t expect Berg to be so cold.

My heart ached as if it were being torn apart.

“…Huh?”

It was the first time I heard such words from him.

In addition, I was just repeating what I said earlier like an idiot.

Berg asked the same question as well.

“What are you…Listen to shake me like before.”

“…………..”

“What do you worry about me for?”

Shien blinked in silence.

…Is this a nightmare?

But no nightmare was as terrible as this one.

I was going to appear in front of Berg, who became a farmer and lived peacefully by himself, gave him everything he could and prayed for until he apologized.

But Berg was a mercenary, not a farmer.

It seemed that he had no intention of listening to himself.

The relationship is completely denied.

Shien muttered with difficulty.

“…I…I…”

There was no doubt that I had nothing to say… But I didn’t want to deny the whole memory either.

Touching the brilliant memories of the past.

Should we call them best friends who used to run around the streets together?

Should we call it your lover who was enough just to have each other?

…Should I call it your love?

I tried to remember the days when we talked about love under the soft sunlight.

“…We are…”

“We are finished.”

Berg cut her off, speaking coldly.

Shien’s vision blurs.

The light of imagining memories is fading.

It felt like descending into a cold reality.

For the dream of being with Berg… I have endured everything.

No matter how hard it was, no matter how dirty it was, no matter how unfair the situation, I endured it.

But pushing it like this… It was a little, no, very difficult.

“…You’re done.”

Berg confirmed it again.

“…”

Obviously he said that.

But he must have known he wasn’t serious.

She thought she would understand why she did it.

It wasn’t a relationship that ended because I wanted to break it in the first place.

It was a relationship where only each other was needed.

“…We just parted for a while…”

“…What?”

Shien opened her mouth.

If it was a different relationship, it would be nonsense.

But this was her relationship with Berg.

It was as affectionate as it was special.

So she gets to talk too.

I didn’t have the strength to push him away anymore, I didn’t have the strength to be resentful.

“…What are you talking about?”

Shien finally asked Berg with her blank eyes.

She didn’t even know what she was talking about.

Her past was the exact opposite of her own hopes, but it was a lie from the beginning.

Didn’t Berg know his own habits when he lied?

He couldn’t have known that I had pushed him away with a lie.

“…Why do we end…?”

So she murmured helplessly.

She didn’t go looking for him because she was afraid of this.

Now that I still have to keep lying, I’m afraid I’ll spit out contradictory words.

“How do we end…?”

At the same time, I don’t understand how Berg could say such nonsense.

It was a selfish and dirty word, but more than that, I can’t believe that my relationship with Berg is over.

There can be no one more precious to each other than each other.

It was the truth that I created since I was young.

We have seen each other’s pain and joy.

He was the first friend I met when I got lost in the slums.

She was the best friend who protected her when she lost her parents.

He was a knight who fought for me when I was being bullied at the orphanage.

It was the first love that naturally connected within a short time.

There are such fond and sticky memories, how could it ever end?

Even if the winds and waves of the world come… That stickiness won’t change.

No matter how hard I try to cover the sun with my hands, it doesn’t.

“For a while…We just broke up…”

– Bang!

Berg got up from his seat and threw the chair he was sitting on against the wall.

So she finally called out to Shien.

Rage bursts out.

“You abandoned me!!”

“Huh… I mean, I didn’t throw it away!!”

Shien also shouted in anger.

Tears start flowing like a broken dam.

“Bell…! I left for you… You know…!”

“…For me!?”

Berg shouts, punching him in the chest.

“How could that be for me!”

Shien refuted Berg’s words as she roughly wiped away her tears.

“I told you…! Hea-nim showed me the future…! I saw the future where you die… How can you not leave!”

Berg laughed dejectedly.

“You still don’t understand…?”

“…..Bell…!”

“How do I know your sincerity! How do I know if you abandoned me with that as an excuse or if you really left for me!!”

“…Bell…!!”

“Leave it as if it would never come back! All you have to do is say something like that!”

Shien also cried and raised her voice.

“I followed you…! If you die…Then what will you do with me, Belle?”

It was her biggest fear.

Berg’s death.

She was afraid of nothing more than that.

Even putting aside the fact that they shouldn’t touch each other, Berg shouldn’t have followed that fear.

Controlling the trembling of desperate breathing caused by her tears, she continues.

“Wait for me…! If I ever die…Then what should I do with you who will be left behind?”

I couldn’t wait.

Her own death will follow Berg.

Is it so wrong to want the treasure to be safe?

Berg laughed.

“…I just want you to die.”

“………..”

At that answer, Shien turned her hair white again.

A refreshingly simple answer.

Shien finally felt what he wanted.

You realize it too late.

I realize once again how much he loved me…

It was he who loved her when she was an orphan with nothing of her.

Berg laughed incredulously.

“You…After all this, did you dream of a future with me?”

An answer to his own words that he never thought it was over yet.

“You didn’t even give me a chance to dream…?”

“……Bell…”

Berg’s angry expression was stained with pain.

“…Wait for me…If you would just say that one word, I would…”

Shien eventually lowered her gaze slowly.

In fact, she realized too late.

She made excuses for her own choices… But there were many times when she wished she had made a different choice.

It was the wrong choices I made when I was young.

Shien once again wiped away the tears with her arms.

Rubbing her face against the hem of her dirty clothes.

She knows things didn’t go the way she thought.

But she needs to correct even that.

She changes her mood.

“…Bell. But… Can’t we fix it from now on…?”

Berg shook her head.

Sheen said, trying hard to ignore the action.

“I was young too… Ugh… I’m sorry… Because I was wrong… But I’ve only been there for you…”

Berg shook his head again.

“…It’s late.”

“It’s not too late. If you wait a little longer, the war will end…! I can’t hug you yet… But I still love you… Do you…”

Shien’s thoughts as she tried to raise her voice in her frustration froze for a moment.

Human mercenary Berg.

The person you seem to have heard of someday.

She realizes it belatedly.

Pain comes as if the whole body is squeezed.

“…………Huh?”

Her eyes found Berg’s hand.

I saw a ring on my ring finger.

At that ring, the field of view becomes far away.

“…I waited for you for 7 years.”

Berg said.

It seemed like he was finally revealing his true feelings.

“Three years…not four years…seven years.”

His hand went over his eyes for a moment.

The ring tells us that their relationship is now a thing of the past.

“In case you come back to me. I hope you will find me.”

“…”

“…It’s late, now.”

Shien’s weakly opened mouth did not close.

I can’t accept the reality that is happening right now.

It was Berg, her sun and moon.

It was her support that had been with her since childhood.

He was the center of all my memories, and I thought it was a miracle that he was with me.

Every moment we were together was happy.

He wonders if anyone knows Berg better than he does.

Is there anyone who knows himself better than Berg?

I wonder if he is whispering his love to another woman?

“… You said you got a lover…?”

Shien denies and purifies, but

“I have a wife. I am here with you.”

Berg gave a precise and brutal answer.

All the promises made with Berg for the future.

I thought that someday I would be able to put those fragmented dreams together.

Shien’s shoulders trembled and tears flowed from her blinded eyes.

She blinked and said nothing.

I wanted to show only my pretty side to Berg, but it turned out like this.

“…..It hurts…Berg…”

She muttered blankly.

There were too many discrepancies with the information she had been told by her church.

She was that much more unbelievable, and that much more painful.

“So don’t rock my wives for nothing.”

But Berg speaks as if he will protect her and her wives from her.

“I…My heart hurts so much…Stop playing around, please…”

Shien couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Wives…What do you mean by that?

If it’s a wife, doesn’t it mean the most precious object?

Wasn’t it herself that Berg cherished the most?

He only looked at himself.

“As long as I stay here… I want to live quietly and move on.”

“… Belle, you said you loved me… Spread it out… For the rest of your life… Ugh… You said you’d love me…”

“…That’s how I want to say goodbye to you one last time.”

“What the hell are you talking about parting!!!”

Shien shouted at the top of his voice in pain.

But that was it.

Berg turned.

As she tries to chase the move, Shien loses her balance and slips on her bed.

– Kung!

“Be…Bel…!”

“Let go of that childish title of ‘Bell’ now.”

Shien’s eyes trembled like aspen trees.

She used to love her nickname Belle.

I still feel indescribable feelings in the word bell.

Shien shouted, closing her eyes tightly.

“You still love me the most!! There is no one who likes you more than me!”

“…”

Berg didn’t react to that.

Instead, he let out a short sigh as if swearing.

This was Berg’s behavior when he did something he didn’t want to do.

Cien has not forgotten that fact even after 7 years have passed.

So I know it’s a forced act… Why does it hurt so much?

“……If you really care for me, pretend you don’t know.”

How could the most precious relationship become unknown to each other?

I couldn’t understand it with Shien’s head.

But Berg didn’t answer.

– Kikiiik….Thung.

Close the door and go outside.

The reunion is cold and short.

I just ask you not to pretend you know and leave.

She seemed to have the only thing to say to her.

Shien was alone in her room, stretching out her hand in the direction Berg had disappeared.

She couldn’t handle all of this.

“…..”

I don’t understand this unreal pain.

She saw Bergman and came running.

I endured watching Bergman.

Berg then left himself.

It was the first time I felt left alone like this.

In her ideal world, she was thanked by Berg.

She was forgiven for those cruel words of parting, and she hugged herself for fighting the demon king for him.

Then again, as before, she lived that happy life.

But the reality was like this.

“…Is that a lie…?”

She whispered, letting out her laugh.

“…It’s all…A dream…?”

I finally realized what pain Berg felt.

The pain of being abandoned.

Even though I knew I wasn’t sincere, the feeling of despair was different.

“…Ah…Ah…”

Has he been struggling with this pain?

As hope disappears, there is no reason to live in the world.

It’s understandable that he’s angry with himself.

She could see clearly what her own fears were.

I wasn’t afraid of Berg’s death until now.

…Not being able to be with Berg was what I was most afraid of.

…Why was he afraid of dying together?

If one side isn’t by your side, that’s the same as death.

“Ah… Ah…”

She fell helplessly to her floor.

He continued to deny this incredible reality.

But her hell might have just begun.

Just one word, the ending is far different from what both hoped for.

    She deserve this

  3. Extra Extra says:

NGL, the lack of compassion / empathy from some of the commenters here is pretty damn concerning.

    ☠☠☠

  4. huehue huehue says:

Damn. I can’t really blame Sien for her past decisions, after all, she was 15 years old when the fate of the people was rested on her shoulders. Now you must face the consequences, Sien.

  5. Anon says:

reading the comments make me think of the direction where the future generation is heading to

  6. I’ve been waiting for this scene for 120 episodes

  7. In a word, I was relieved.

  8. Zzz says:

    Saintess is always the worst.
It is worse than ner because ner is just stupid
She literally killed him once there if not for adam

  9. Orcha says:

The saintess will go down to the Yandere route, and she might threaten the church because they lied to her, and she will make the church agree with her to abolish polygamy so she can have berg for her own 🗿

  10. Mevhisto says:

I want to sympathize with Shien but I can’t because if not for Adam Berg might be dead, the church doesn’t even help Berg after he parts ways with Shien, and Shien just fantasizes about a happy life with Berg without knowing how much weight she put on the words she said to berg, even though these are childhood mistake, you may be forgiving her because you know there’s another second chance she might get to be forgiven by berg, but if you think in another way where there’s no second chance for her you will think she deserved this

  11. Nikhil Kumar says:

Yup the author is still a sadist

  12. The saint will carry the “obssessive love” tag now.

  13. Zen says:

Breg should have stopped caring about already… Hope this chapter will help him build a better character not like a broken puppet… I also wish he would leave the other fmcs if they continue with their little petty mind games. Man he could have just chosen that mercenary leader girl he such a broken puppet though he wouldn’t be happy alteast he would spared from that ‘she loves she loves me not games’.

  14. ihy says:

I can’t believe what i am reading in the comments, what Shien did was far more understandable than all the bs Ner has been spouting. What was she supposed to do? Defy the church? That’s a surefire way to get Berg killed and get herself treated like a slave. Remember Berg was nothing back then so it’s not like they could’ve ran away together.

Shien was very much so forced to abandon him, Arwen is understandable given her circumstances being literally torture so she’s doing pretty good. Ner on the other hand is a dumbass with no agency that got stuck in dogmas even though Berg has been nothing but good to him. I’m okay with any ending except for Ner. But we all know this will somehow end with a harem so w/e.

  15. k says:

This is my fan theory: After defeat the demon king, the heroes get reward by the kingdom and Shien wish is cancelling polygamy.

  16. k says:

The drama is superb as always

  17. rob z rob z says:

Memomo – Beg to differ. First, she is exhibiting classic signs of NPD, including preoccupation with fantasies of ideal love, unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with her expectations, and lacking in empathy – as noted above, highly toxic and he is definitely better off far, far away from her.

Next, her behavior at the breakup was horrible and unnecessary. Remember how they parted?

“When the job is done, I will become a hero. Why would I have a reason to return to your side?”
“I’ll wear clean clothes and eat delicious food. There’s no reason for me to come back to you.”
    “…Our close friendship ends here.”

Sure, they were lies and even the MC got that, but it was unnecessarily cruel to say to a boy out of the slums. And then how she wrapped it up?

    “…Don’t go.”
    “…Please.”
The voice came out trembling and for the first time, I begged her.
“Please… please, please. I beg you. I don’t want it to end like this.”
I threw away all my pride. That was how much I needed her.
I uttered words that made it impossible for her to leave.
And this time, she turned her back to me and cruelly spoke.
    “…We probably won’t meet again…”

She destroyed him. You can try and justify it how you want, but it was a betrayal of him and all of what their relationship meant. Even if it was just one instance, terrible mistakes have terrible consequences, especially when it comes to trust / betrayal.

In short, all three of these FMCs are flawed, perhaps fatally. If it comes to personal preference, I find Ner far preferable to Shien. Yes, she had a difficult start, but she was thrown into a political marriage with someone she didn’t know, of a different species, with a questionable reputation based on what she had heard. However, she has grown to love MC (in a relatively short period of time), and given adequate time for their relationship to develop (which Shien had and pissed away), I trust her far more than Shien at such point to care about MC’s happiness.

Ultimately, I would rather see the MC find his own wife and his own happiness away from any of these three, but I doubt the author goes in that direction.

  18. Crosz says:

Tbh Berg didn’t deserve all of this sh1t that was happening to him. Being abandoned as a child, where you have nothing and there comes a girl who you thought will be with you forever, but in the end she still leaves you in the most cruel way possible. Even tho each women he encounters have their own circumstances, but still we cannot deny the fact that berg really suffers the most both physically, emotionally and mentally.

  19. Do says:

As he is my son, I also support Berg’s decision to act like this now. Either way, I hope that everyone is able to find a happy ending in the finale.

  20. LuxX says:

Hmm, it was a sad but satisfying chapter. Be miserable, I sided with Berg unconditionally haha.

  21. Athanatos says:

I have nothing to say except, *inhales… UWAAAAAGGHHHHHHHHHH LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOO.

  22. Forgotten one says:

That’s what I am waiting for!!

  23. Bocchan says:

Sheesh ngl this was Great development than i thought since shien/Saintess was indeed Berg’s character development 💀💀💀💀💀 hope berg overcome his past & move on to become stronger

  24. Rinrin says:

This is clearly a red flag, shien gonna be a sick yandere girl isnt she? Gonna demand a compensasion from the king, Abolish polygamy, messed up berg marriage life, destroy the kingdom, destroy the churc, became last boss, defeated by berg hand, hmmm i hope not.

Forget about shien, i hope i see more lovey dovey moment with nere, berg, and arwin (and of course i wanna see berg Jr)

  25. Gahar says:

I wonder what she will do now when she knows about Bergs fate. I bet that she will transform into some another sick yandere who will demand from the king some kind of compensation for her services in form off bringing Berg to her.
It will be funny thou if Berg will be really recognized as a hero like her. What a headache for the poor king (I am being sarcastic because both he and the church he clearly controls are responsible for 90% of this drama).

  26. Jecker 17 Jecker 17 says:

Hmm, great chapter. Shien is naive to expect everything to be water under the bridge and them reconciling without any issues. However, when Berg said ‘ You didn’t even give me a chance to dream ‘, that was quite sweet and true. For 7 years both of them were stuck, and Berg is right in trying to move on. After all, she was the one to break their relation. Additionally, upon meeting she shouldn’t have wanted to Berg to quit being a mercenary. That was an extremely bad move, albeit it stems from a good concern.

Though the irony is both of them sacrificed their personal lives for others, although Berg is the one who is embracing his sacrifices.

  27. Also I am suprised how nobody marched into the room when he threw a chair to the wall when there is a saintess inside.

(Well it maybe bc the house was already complicated but still)

  28. Ooof…. What a chapter…Here is the regret tag…

Though I think Berg said the best possible solution. If she said “wait” instead of “goodbye” everything could have changed.

Goddess sure is cruel though. In order to seperate Berg and Shien she showed Berg’s death to Shien. I just wish she appears as a character. I really like when stories use Gods as characters

    Thanks for chapters

  29. Memomo says:

@rob z…. I think you’re being a little too harsh on shien here… she did make a mistake.. and she went to hell for 7 years because of it… her only reason to survive that hellish war and cling on to life which was Berg.. when faced with a difficult challenge, one tends to be irrational thinking everything will go his way once the the challenge ends.
personally I prefer shien more than the other 2 dumb hypocrites of wives the mc have.. she is the only one true to her feelings even if she behaved wrong.. and I’d really hate it if she doesn’t end up as his wife

  30. rob z rob z says:

LOVED this chapter, especially Berg stepping up and calling Shien on her sh!t. Especially when he says “You didn’t even give me a chance to dream.”

BH – strongly disagree. I have no sympathy for Shien. After treating him like she did when they parted (and she knew what she did was f%cked up but tried to rationalize it i.e. “made excuses” for her choices) she concocts this ridiculous fantasy in her head where she thinks she will just show up one day after who knows how many years, and of course Berg will be a little mad, but with just a little explanation he will take her in his arms fawn all over her. This is classic narcissist thinking and highly toxic.

  31. BH says:

I know right, I hate how it stopped right there when things were just getting good T_T

Still though, I really feel bad for both Berg and Shien here though. Of course I’m on Berg’s side since I sympathize with him more but Shien is a victim too. Church manipulated her and lied to her saying Berg was living peaceful good life as a farmer and now she knows he has been rolling around in bloody battlefields whole time.

On top of that he is married, Shien about to go through an epic mental breakdown.

  32. Saibot says:

Can’t wait for the next batch of chapters
