MC is a graduate student working on his thesis who dies and wakes up in a sort of medieval fantasy world as a slave (apparently from the far east in that world. which seems to line up with this world’s concept of the far east). He escapes his initial captivity, but is caught by another slave trader and then sold to a mercenary group. He is promised by the leader (who seems like a decent guy) that if he survives 5 years he will get his freedom. He is trained and becomes a very competent fighter, and survives (more haunted by his time as a graduate student than having to kill people). At the end of the 5 years, he is given his freedom, but doesn’t know what to do (e.g., he is offered a chance to go to the royal army academy and refuses), so joins the mercenary company as a full, non-slave mercenary. The story proceeds from there, basically the MCs life as a wandering mercenary. Eventually a couple girls join his group (but it’s not really a harem as of what I read).

I found it really generic and dull – nothing really to recommend it. Also, the mtl is not very good. I would recommend passing.
