Basic premise – MC is in the party that fights the demon king. Party is led by his master, a red headed babe in a mask who is a witch / magic user. MC is also a magic user, and the rest of the party are also disciples of his master. Master babe defeats the demon king, but is wounded / exhausted. MC goes to give her a magic healing potion, but it is destroyed by another party member. Dun dun dunnnn – its a typical betrayal story. MC asks why the rest of the party betrayed master babe, but they won’t reveal it, only saying they got a great deal. MC is asked to join the betraying group, and for a second it looks like he will, but then he attacks the betraying party telling the master to escape, and planning to sacrifice himself. Betraying party really effs him up and he is dying. However, master babe can’t leave him ad wats to stop them but has no power left. Just as betraying party is about to kill him, the demon king castle starts to collapse. Betrayers escape, leaving master babe and MC. Master babe is totally moved and emotional by MC’s sacrifice, and does everything she can to save him. She uses forbidden magic taking power from the demon king, and saves MC’s life, which works, but also turns him into a demon.

MC wakes up a while later, and sees Master’s face, which has become much younger (won’t get into the details). Basically the idea is they want to get revenge. And the story goes from there.

The only aspect that is somewhat original is that master babe (not MC) is the one that defeated the demon king, and she is not the typical “brave”, “hero”, or “sword saint” kind of character. The betraying party characters aren’t really well drawn – they all kind of blend in – basically its “Betrayer 1,” Betrayer 2″, etc. The revenge plot isn’t that great, and happens really quickly. And the story as a whole is really rushed in the second half. Basically the first 25 chapters it feels like the novel is paced to go 100-200 chapters, but by 35 the author just wants to wrap it up.

Quick story you can finish in 1 day – maybe 5.5-6/10.
