You see, it’s difficult for Harem novels to be really good because so many characters are concerned. For example look at Harry Potter, we have three protagonists there but in Harem media it can go above 10. So a very good writer by focusing on the individual heroines can bring out true power of Harem.

Most striking example of this is Japanese Manga where the guy has 100 girlfriends. There every single heroine is unique with their problems and characteristics and even if some of them overlap in some way they can be differentiated. Another example will be Little Tyrant doesn’t want a Bad End, a Chinese novel which was able to get one of the best harems, till last arc which went a little sideways but still good.

Overall I believe that people don’t hate harem per se, still there will be few who just abhor the idea, but they just don’t like the stories. Harem is not a fun little thing, it’s a challenge for Writer so that’s why just because it’s in popularity only a few are good.
