General summary: MC is a fan of a particular romance-fantasy game series. In particular, MC was in love with this NPC called the unnamed saintess, who helped him out in the game, but never has a happy ending. (Can’t emphasize this enough – MC was going through a very dark time when he found this game, and the saintess character basically healed him and made him want to live again). The first game is outstanding and loved by all. However, when the sequel comes out, it screws up the happy ending of the first game (e.g. two main love interests in the hero party apparently feel they don’t love each other enough, leave the party, and then the party gets wiped out, etc). MC is livid, but gets chance to fix the game by being transported into the third game, which is actually a prequel. MC is assigned the task of going into the prequel game world and making sure all the couples in the first and second game get together and fall in love. If he is successful, then he gets to see a happy ending route for the saintess. Once in the game world, most of the action is in an academy setting, where he meets and interacts with the three couples he needs to set up.

This novel started out well, but then starting around chapter 109 the MC becomes a grotesquely stupid, insensitive, Japanese novel style MC. The FMC is literally throwing herself at him and he keeps trying to put her in the friend box, even though he has been hopelessly in love with her from the start of the novel. And he keeps this one massive secret from her that any idiot would realize makes things painful for her, based on dense MC logic that makes no sense whatsoever. (Can’t explain in more detail without massive spoilers).
